Per TPM, James O'Keefe and his right-wing friends will NOT be charged with felonies for trying to do... who knows what... to Sen. Mary Landrieu's phone lines.
Charges have been reduced against activist filmmaker James O'Keefe and the three other men charged in the alleged Landrieu phone tampering case, the Justice Department announced today.
The four men "were charged in a one-count bill of information with entering real property of the United States under false pretenses, a misdemeanor," the DOJ announced in a press release today.
....
The four were charged back in January with entering federal property under false pretenses for the purpose of committing a felony. In the original charges, authorities alleged that the men tried to tamper with the phones at the New Orleans office of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA).
MSNBC is reporting right now that the four agreed to reduced charges in return for guilty pleas to a misdemeanor.
Was justice served here?
And from the DOJ release:
If convicted, Flanagan, Basel, O'Keefe, and Dai each face a maximum term of six (6) months in prison and a fine of $5,000.
But that's the maximum. There's nothing to indicate they'll actually get the maximum sentence in exchange for guilty pleas.
