In these black days {pun intended} for British Petroleum, they have found a new BFF - Dr. Rand Paul. And, the jollies just keep on coming - HA!
One of today's "this day in history" items is mucho depressivo, but I owe it to the memory of an American hero to remember it & hope for better days ahead. So, I'll bring it up now then move on to the way more fun ones on the docket. On this date in 1979, former San Francisco City Supervisor Dan White was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the shooting deaths of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk; White's argument that junk food had fueled his rampage was derided as the "Twinkie defense." Josh Brolin was scary good as Dan White in Milk; he even looked like the mother fucker. Yes, Dan White deserves me "dropping the f bomb." And, him being the good Catholic boy he was, he is surely burning in the Hell he so believed in; murdering 2 men AND killing yourself must put you on the express train there.
OK...onto way happier events! On this date in 1819, bicycles were first seen in the US in New York City. They were originally known as "swift walkers." I could find no research if any former Tour de France winners in the crowd had used "performance enhancers." ;D On this date in 1945, Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart were married.
Oh...Yea... ;D
Today is also a truly momentous day for us Star Wars geeks! On this date in 1980, The Empire Strikes Back was released. At approximately the 1:45 point in this clip from Fanboys is THE MOST FANDAMNTATISTIC "call back" to one of the classic scenes from TESB
Finally, Senator Al Franken (suck on it, BillO!) is 59 today! And, just to rub some salt into BillO's gashing wound...
HA! Let's Countdown!
And, Happy Friday to me!! RICHARD WOLFFE’S ON THE SHOW TONIGHT!
#5 "ApPAULling" AKA "Rand Management" AKA "Rand Old Party" - OK, do I really need to rehash "the good Dr.’s" performance on GMA this morning? Unless y’all have been under a rock or away from the intertubes, you KNOW what happened. He also called the mine disaster that killed 31 miners in West Virginia "an accident"; silly me, I was calling it negligent homicide.
Maybe, sometimes accidents happen.
That needs to be a bumper sticker post haste! He apparently doesn’t think there should be a minimum wage, either. Once again...a ray of sunshine all over the damn place! Dr. Paul has reneged on his planned appearance on MTP! Would David Gregory have been THAT TOUGH of an interviewer? HERE HE IS {hee...hee...hee}!
"This well is not yet dry"?!
HA! Oh, that was FUNNY regarding the other myriad ways Rand Paul can demonstrate his STOOOOPIDITY! That just might be sig line worthy! ;D Richard said Rand Paul’s "...learned how to play dodge ball." Well, we’ll see about that!
He also clarified wonderfully that in Rand Paul’s & his ilk’s twisted little world, in the battle against business & the government/the people, business comes first. Yea! What DOES St. Sarah from Wasilla think of ‘ol Randy’s stance on the ADA?! Senator Jim Bunning yesterday said that Dr. Paul’s views should be the views of the GOP. And, that, sir, is why Mitchie told you to exit stage right! Good sparkin’ grief... No one’s answered my question that I posed about him weeks ago! Y’all on teh Twitter, pass this along to Keith for me! Was then – pitcher Jim Bunning as big of a boil – on – the – butt – of – humanity while he was in baseball, or did he get mean only after he went into public service? Here’s what Senator Jon Kyl had to say:
I hope he can separate the theoretical and the interesting and the hypothetical questions that college students debate until 2 a.m. from the actual votes we have to cast based on real legislation here.
Here’s David Corn to get "randy" on Rand Paul – HA! ;D Do any of y’all want to volunteer to be Rand Paul’s "blow out preventer"?! THAT was funny; there are LOTS of giggles to be had over Dr. Paul. HEY! Jack Conway’s going to be on the show Monday night! KEWL! I don’t know much about him, so Monday will be a good education.
#4 "Oil Rigged" AKA "Muddying the Waters" AKA "Conflicts of Interest: Oil and Water" - BS/BP had a darn good reason for fibbing about how much oil was/is spewing from under that blown – up rig; any damages or court cases brought against them will be based on how much oil spilled. If that number keeps fudging, you get a whole lot of "reasonable doubt" in a criminal case. Environmentalists in DC today said dispersants make oil spills worse – not better. Volunteers who showed up & offered to help clean up birds & other affected wildlife were turned away and told that only contractors from BP could do it. Wow... Did Exxon try to pull that $hit in Alaska?! O...M...G...tests from the spill are being sent someplace to be studied that has BP as one of its clients. Golly, all this is just getting more "special" by the hour!
Taylor Kirschenfeld refused to send samples to where NOAA told him to send them. And, let’s all just bear in mind what the "honorable" Tony Hayward had to say about the environmental impact of the spill in the Gulf!
** YUCK!!! THERE WAS A MOUSE AT THE WHITE HOUSE YESTERDAY!!! Sorry for the all caps, but I...hate...rodents...with...a...PASSION. Justin Bieber had an issue with a glass door in Germany. Some guys in Belgium busted a statue they were moving – OOPS! **
#3 "Regulating the Banksters" - The financial bill passed by the Senate last night must go through a conference committee with the version passed by the House. And, here come the lobbyists! Rep. Barney Frank thinks the 2 bills can be put together within a month. Um...is he aware of how not – well the Senate’s been working?! Small Price to Pay Goldilocks has issued a challenge that the conference committee be shown on CSPAN; oh please, someone call his bluff!
Senator Harry Reid thinks last night’s bill will put the kibosh on further bailouts. Dan Gross is here to tell us whether or not Harry’s full of poo. The Volker Rule didn’t make the final cut in the Senate bill. A fund that companies pay into that they can later access to get their own sorry keesters out of trouble also did not make the final cut in the Senate bill. Mr. Gross commented that things on Wall Street have actually gotten worse over the course of the financial bills being debated. He said that to, perhaps, demonstrate that maybe lobbyists haven’t and won’t have the effect that people think they will.
WPITW – John Stossel is sticking up for Rand Paul. Newt Gingrich has been comparing President Obama to Nazis and to Chairman Mao. The Chicken Lady has conveniently forgotten laws about campaign donations! She must’ve been too full of chicken. ;D
Fridays with Thurber "The Mouse Who Went to the Country" HEY! I’ve heard this! I didn’t know James Thurber wrote this. Well, I’ll be snookered! The moral of the story, boys & girls?
Stay where you are; you’re sitting pretty!
"The Moth and the Star" A little moth wanted to reach for the stars – literally. Mom & Pop wanted little mothy guy to settle for lamps. The moral of the story, boys & girls?
Who flies afar from the sphere of our sorrow is here today and here tomorrow.
"The Owl Who Was God" Ah...this one sounds familiar; I think I’ve gotten to this one in the book! :) The moral, boys & girls?
You can fool too many of the people too much of the time!
