Diarist note: Since I'm pretty sure that most of the C&J crowd was sleeping off their Rum & Coke Friday this morning at 9, this diary is being republished in the hopes that they are now awake and will rise to meet the $ 100 challenge (see below the squiggle)
Crowdfunding has its origins in the concept of crowdsourcing, which is the broader concept of an individual reaching a goal by receiving and leveraging small contributions from many parties. Crowdfunding is the application of this concept to the collection of funds through small contributions from many parties in order to finance a particular project or venture. - Wikipedia.org

This morning my husband I and got up at 3:30 and decided to head down to the Long Island Sound to take pictures of the sunrise. We went to Ocean Point Park just south of New London. We caught the sun just as it came over the horizon. The sunrise was beautiful and we took some pictures. Follow below the Fleur-de-Kos for the surprise. (Warning: photo heavy)
I just love to laugh and I had a good one over this story so I thought I would share. Apparently the Tea Party booked a conference at the Venetian in Las Vegas for an event in July of 2010. Judson Phillips' organization booked 1637 rooms and then cancelled them just a few weeks prior and did not pay for the rooms as stipulated in the contract. Despite repeated requests by the hotel, Judson refused to pay. The Venetian took the tea partier and his band to court.
A judge this week ruled against Judson and ordered him to pay the hotel $748,000 which includes interest on the unpaid bill. The best part: The hotel is owned by none other than Sheldon Adelson. Where is bubbanomics when you need him?
Apparently Judson and his merry band of tea partiers are not the only ones trying to skip out on a bill. The Southern Republican Leadership Conference stiffed the Charleston Place Hotel and has also been sued.
I just love a good laugh in the middle of the day. The entire story can be found here:
I heard this on NPR this morning, and didn't see anything on it yet, so I thought I'd put up a quick diary. The hits just keep on coming for these clowns. Follow below the fluer-de-Kos for the story from NPR on Morning Edition this morning.
I'll Have Another has been scratched from the Belmont Stakes - there will not be a Triple Crown winner in 2012.
I wish I were making this up. I wish this were an April Fools Day joke and I wish this was not happening in my home state of Ohio. A young man, Carrollton High School Senior Austin Fisher is being denied the chance to walk at graduation because he has missed 2 more days than allowable under the school board's attendance policy. The reason sickens me beyond belief. He has missed those days to care for his mother, who is fighting cancer. Follow me below the fluer-de-Kos to see how you can help.
This was the tweet that went out early this morning from Rev. Al Sharpton:
"My mother, Ada Sharpton passed in the early hours of this morning. She was my all. I hope God will give her now, PEACE.I love you, Mom."
I was watching Morning Joe and his message to them was read on-air. I am sure his heart was breaking, and yet he continued on to Florida for the planned rally in support of the family of Trayvon Martin. He will go to Alabama to make arrangements after the rally.
The press conference just started and the city manager turned it over to the Police Chief. He said he was "temporarily stepping down"? What?!

How does one temporarily step down, make a two or three sentence statement and then walk away without explanation?
This is my second year participating in Netroots for the Troops. Onomastic noticed last year I was always in the comments of these diaries and asked me if I would like to write one to raise money for the care packages sent by NFTT. I had never written a diary before - let alone a diary trying to raise money. With her encouragement, I took that first step because I believe so deeply in this cause. That first diary can be seen here:
It received only 32 comments and I don't know if it even raised any money but I became committed 100% to this effort. Why do I write about this when I don't write posts? Follow me below the orange squiggly.
One of the most beautiful and inspirational quotes/poems my mother gave me had to do with people who come in and out of your life. I think it also applies to this wonderful community. Follow below the Fluer-de Kos and I'll explain.
This is usually such a difficult time of year for me. Five years ago today my grandson Daniel died at the age of five months and five days old. My heart was completely broken. My last picture of him was in a Santa suit taken the day he died. Christmas was never going to be the same and it was always my favorite time of year. This past weekend as a result of disastrous circumstances I met a wonderful young girl I only knew as Little and her parents Moody Loner and MommyP00ka. Little has changed my holiday and my life - I hope in some small way we can do something for her family. Follow me below the fluer-de-Kos for the rest of the story.
Just when I think I can't be any more disgusted with the priorities in this country I see something new. Admiral Mullen, in an article at Military.com, says that cuts in troop pay and benefits (active and retirees) is on the table when looking at reducing the budget of the Department of Defense.
