Why am I willing to wager that the Preezy is going to deep six the polluters? Because ... Tim Kaine. Hear me out.

Re-posting something from Saturday in light of new developments. Obviously no final decision yet, but here goes my two cents.

Why am I willing to wager that the Preezy is going to deep six the polluters? Because ... Tim Kaine. Hear me out.

I am among those who worry that the President will announce a lot of steps on climate change and prepare to slip in approval of Keystone XL. But I do not think that will happen, and here is why.

That he puts out information about a major upcoming speech in the NY Times is pretty standard. That he also hypes it up using a YouTube video is less standard and raises some expectations. But what happened in between those two events? An editorial by Tim Kaine opposing the Keystone XL pipeline.

Tim Kaine: Obama should block the Keystone pipeline

The timing cannot be coincidence, and the person writing this cannot either. Tim Kaine is very close to the White House for this to be a chance.

1) He was one of the candidates Team Obama considered very seriously for VP in 2008.

2) Then in 2009, Team Obama hand picked him to head the DNC.

3) Members of Team Obama lobbied him to run for Senate in 2011.

I submit to you that it is NOT POSSIBLE that Kaine wrote this editorial without the knowledge of the White House, and the White House would not approve of the timing  just ahead of a major energy speech unless they wanted it out there.

Needed: A Line in the Sand on Guns

by AlexThorne

What is becoming increasingly clear is that any gun legislation that passes the Senate, if anything does, will be completely watered down. And then the House will get to work on it. At what point does one ask if it may be better drawing a line in the sand, getting people to vote for the record, and fighting for a better day and a better bill?

There will be no ban on military style assault weapons, and no ban on high-capacity magazines. There will be no universal background checks either (so much for Sen. Chuck Schumer's sweet spot). And if reports are correct, even the fabled Toomey-Manchin amendment and is being further weakened in this desperate bid for 60 votes.

Relax on the cliff

by AlexThorne

Just because so many people are so upset over so many things fiscal cliff, I thought it would be a good idea to remember what the other side is going through post election.

Maybe we need to lighten up a little considering what the Republicans are having to swallow here, and in particular this sloppy plan B. The idea is once you cave on tax increases, you are toast.

Here is Redstate's take:

An old joke, long attributed to Winston Churchill goes like this. Churchill asked a famous British socialite, “Madam, would you sleep with me for five million pounds?”

“My goodness, Mr. Churchill. Well, I suppose we would have to discuss terms, of course,” the socialite replied.

Churchill then asked, “Would you sleep with me for five pounds?” at which the socialite angrily responded, “Mr. Churchill, what kind of woman do you think I am?”

Winston Churchill calmly replied, “Madam, we’ve already established that. Now we are haggling about the price.”

It's a lot of fun to go on and read the entire piece, just to release some of that stress. The point is that Boehner's plan B is falling apart, and he does not have 218 votes barring some nonsense he adds to it. And he gets Republicans to vote for a tax increase on a bill that goes nowhere. And then they are really screwed. If not, he is really screwed.

Bottom line, Boehner is going to come crawling back to the White House and strike a deal to save his behind, and yes there will be some pain, but nothing compared to what the Republicans will swallow. And as FDR said, you break them once, then you are just haggling over the price.

And remember what the Republicans would have been peddling if they had won, all they would have been saying about Obama, Obamacare, Wall Street Inform, 20% across the board tax cuts, Ryan budget, Premium Support. All that is dead.

So breathe a little, and enjoy the show.

One of the most incredibly dumb pieces of work from the guy who defended Mitt Romney over Bain without disclosing his own ties to Bain.

http://www.cnn.com/...

Wall Street stooge David Gergen asks Obama to not humiliate Republicans by forcing them to swallow a tax rate increase.

Instead of turning the GOP willingness to deal on taxes into a win-win, the White House seemingly wants to humiliate them by insisting they cave entirely on increasing tax rates -- or take responsibility for going over the cliff. Instead of sitting down and negotiating directly with leaders from the other side in private getaways, as presidents like Lyndon Johnson and Ronald Reagan did, the president launches a campaign-style offensive against them.
He is of the school which says: when Republicans win, Democrats must cave, when Democrats win, Democrats must compromise. He is precisely the kind of moderate sounding voice that has been screwing with the Democratic party, just like Third Way and Fix The Debt. What they care about is wall street profits come the end of the day.

He is also among the idiots who thinks the president went too far left after his election, as opposed to nutjobs on the other side disowning their own ideas to defeat the president. And people like Gergen gave them cover by playing he said she said.

The same story unfolded over the past four years as the Obama White House went beyond public tolerance in its first two years.
Detachment from reality. As Reid said about Boehner, I don't know what's in his brain. I also loved watching Joe Scarborough moan and groan this morning. Last summer, I remember him saying: "The President should learn to play the GAAAIM. He should learn to enjoy the GAAAAIM."

A very short diary, just to spread some holiday cheer. Here is America's Happy Warrior in his elements.

Enjoy the priceless pics:

Looks like the White House has decided to just set him free for the next four years. What with the Nantucket cold turkey and now this. And I am glad they did. He might just lift consumer confidence with a few more of these trips.

Looks like they were all waiting for Ras.

We Ask America:

WI: O 52-45 (+7)
OH: O 50-46 (+4)
VA: O 49-48 (+1)

Along with Gravis showing O+4 in IA, this has to sting the Mittster. No wonder Fox News is still spinning Libya.

It is really interesting to see that the POLITICO poll now shows Obama+1 from Romney+2 last week. What is more, Hispanic sample is only up to 7% from 5% last week, which makes it even better.

http://images.politico.com/...

However, the sweetest bit it how Brit Hume set it up as Romney+5, which was unbelievable to all of us here, but is now resulting in major freak-out over on the right. Enjoy it here:

http://www.freerepublic.com/...

However, a few broader points need to be made here, and it may be worth remembering over the last week.

1) The poll still shows a 77% white likely voter sample, off by a minimum of 3 and possibly 5. It will be important to look for this in other polls too. It is actually a VERY GOOD POLL considering the sample

2) National polling this week will in general be quite dodgy given Hurricane Sandy and its impact on response in the North-east. So sample of north-east respondents will also be something to look out for.

3) When you tweet this poll or speak about it, make sure you mention 77% white and 7% Latino LV sample in the same sentence as Obama+1. The media can only pull the wool over our eyes if they think they can get away with it.

4) Point out every chance you get how Brit Hume just lied on FOX NEWS. Turn the table using actual evidence of a verifiable lie.

5) The media is at least somewhat keen to call Romney out for his filthy Jeep lie, to the extent that even The Hill is reporting on it.

http://thehill.com/...

Let's help the media do its job. They may need an additional push given how they have let Romney lie his way towards the White House.

6) Finally, anybody who can, get to Columbus or Cleveland. There are unlikely voters to turn out here that will make undecideds look silly.

A very important thing to keep in mind, and be prepared for. I heard a rumour (in conservative media) that this POLITICO poll tomorrow will show Romney up 5. Don't know if it is true, but they had Romney +2 last Monday. Here is the kicker: White: 78%, Hispanic 5%!!!!

 White ........................................................................ 78%
  Black/African-American ......................................... 12%
  Hispanic/Latino (TO D14) ........................................ 5%
 Asian/Pacific American............................................. 1%
  Native American ........................................................ 1%
  UNSURE/REFUSED (DNR) ................................... 2%
