1968: Nixon’s treacherous and treasonous backchanneling to sabotage the peace talks regarding the Vietnam War.
1980: Both Reagan’s running mate (who had headed the CIA just a few years prior) and Reagan’s campaign manager (who then became CIA director from 1981 until he croaked in 1987, during which time he was the Reagan administration’ most notorious, aggressive promoter of illegal covert operations, arming death squads in Central America — among other such horrendous acts of state-sponsored terrorism) — both of these men (George H.W. Bush and William Casey) embark on a whirlwind tour in 1980 of secret meetings with Iranian intermediaries and in some cases, Iranian state officials themselves. Then, “coincidentally”, all of the American hostages being held in Iran — the same Iranian Hostage Crisis that sunk Jimmy Carter’s Presidency, if nothing else did — were released right after news of Reagan’s inauguration as President on January 20, 1981.
(Just as a “by the way”, this obviously won’t be the last time that Reagan, Bush, Casey, and their subordinates would negotiate — off-the-books as much as possible, of course — with Iranian-backed hostage takers. Perhaps they thought that they could replicate what they did in 1980, eh?Also, insert something about “we don’t negotiate with terrorists” here...)
2000: Florida and Bush v. Gore. ‘Nuff said.
2004: See above re: Florida, and add Ohio to the list of Republican-driven shenanigans regarding voter rolls and those darned electronic voting machines.
2016: Oh, oh dear….whew...*takes deep, long breath, clenches and unclenches fists several times, breathes out again* Where do we even BEGIN with this one?!
At LEAST 5. Maybe throw in 1972, what with Watergate and all that Nixonian/CREEP ratfucking? 1984...don’t know enough about that one, I guess Ronnie Ray Gun was a one-hit wonder on that one. 1988...nasty, nasty election, Willie Horton and all. Thanks, “Poppy” Bush! And thanks, Roger Ailes and Lee Atwater (I hope they’re both rotting in hell next to each other. :) ).
