In an op-ed for the Detroit Free Press titled Americans don't know how good they have it with Obama, Richard Brunt of Victoria, British Columbia made potentially the best possible argument in favor of Democratic policies and achievements.

Consider, right now in America, corporate profits are at record highs, the country's adding 200,000 jobs per month, unemployment is below 6%, U.S. gross national product growth is the best of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries.

The dollar is at its strongest levels in years, the stock market is near record highs, gasoline prices are falling, there's no inflation, interest rates are the lowest in 30 years, U.S. oil imports are declining, U.S. oil production is rapidly increasing, the deficit is rapidly declining, and the wealthy are still making astonishing amounts of money.

America is leading the world once again and respected internationally — in sharp contrast to the Bush years. Obama brought soldiers home from Iraq and killed Osama bin Laden.

Sounds like a much better argument than "Well, I might be a Democrat, but I am not Obama, sooooo...vote for me? Is that okay?"

Mr. Brunt goes on:

So, Americans vote for the party that got you into the mess that Obama just dug you out of? This defies reason. When you are done with Obama, could you send him our way?
Hey, Mr. Brunt, I have to warn you he is a black guy! Oh, that doesn't really bother you up there? Well then sure, have at it. It seems to bother a large subset of our population for some reason, but if you are OK with it...

Please Impeach President Obama!

Speaker Boehner, Incoming Leader McConnell, get on this right away.

Do it for this sole reason: The impeachment resolution will get through the House, it will go precisely nowhere when tried in the Senate, and the Republicans will look like bigger idiots than they already do.

Constitution, Article 1, Section 3, Clause 6:

"The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present."
54 Republicans in the Senate does not 2/3 make. There are not 13 Democrats who would go along with them on removing the President. (Honestly, the 2014 election purged many red-state Dems who otherwise might have had the slightest of temptations.)

Oh, and Chief Justice Roberts, the G.W. Bush-appointed "savior of Obamacare" would preside over the doomed trial.

So, Speaker Boehner, please proceed. The Constitution grants the impeachment power to the House, so you have to man up and make good on your threat. Most of your base probably thinks "impeach" means "kick out", having failed to read the Constitution they claim the President is trampling upon. Deal with their backlash when they realize that you certainly did impeach him, but he is still in office. Give them their red meat, and let them see that it was pink slime all along.

Please, Mr. Boehner, waste more of Congress' time on frivolous things, we need you to look as clownish as possible in 2 years time.

Nobody should donate to the NRSC (National Republican Senatorial Committee). Around these orange-yet-blue parts, that statement might as well begin with "Thou shalt not..."

It looks like the folks at RedState agree! Found on their site today is this diary that claims that the RedState faithful should abandon the NRSC as well.

This is a front-page story over there, not just some dude throwing up a diary because Freedom.

Apparently they are pissed because of the Kansas primary. ($$$ to Roberts and not Wolf).

They are pissed about the Mississippi runoff. ($$$ and "Democratic votes from urban areas" to Cochran and not McDaniel.

It isn't explicitly mentioned but I assume they are pissed about the primaries in Kentucky as well, because they do love to bash McConnell over there; a passion I also share.

I'd march in their rally anyday if it just stopped at "screw the NRSC", but then they came out and say they want us all to donate to the Senate Conservatives Fund instead.

After my knee-jerk reaction of writing them off and calling them RWNJ's, I dug around a little on the SCF.

The SCF has only endorsed 4 candidates for Senate this cycle. Four! One is a longshot in the crowded Louisiana field (Rob Maness), one is a sure win in Nebraska (Ben Sasse).

Which leaves only Joni Ernst (Iowa) and Tom Cotton (Arkansas) as the "real" conservatives out there in competitive races.

So even if all the money goes to the SCF instead of the NRSC, it really only serves 2 races. I am still largely okay with this.

So here's the game plan for "true" conservatives.
-Don't give the NRSC any more money.
-Send all of your money to the SCF instead, so they can funnel it all into two states and weaken the GOP candidates everywhere else.
-Give Democrats a fighting chance in a tough midterm.
-Cringe when you squander some good opportunities in 2014.
-Cringe again when you see the 2016 Senate map and how advantageous it is to the Dems.

Go RedState! Get mad and let them hear you! There are a lot of Democrats wishing you the best of luck! Freedom! 'Murrica!

Jennifer Granholm for Attorney General!

With the news of Eric Holder's pending resignation, the focus has immediately shifted to who might replace him. Yahoo News is running an article claiming that the top contenders are Donald Verrilli Jr., Kamala Harris, and Sheldon Whitehouse. While all of them have merit, the vast majority of people are going to ask one question first with regard to any of them.

"Who the hell is [insert name here]?"

They are working hard to bring in the big names for a big event in Michigan to fire up their grassroots and get them working hard for my opponent, Rep. Gary Peters.

So how will our campaign fight back against the national liberal grassroots? With the national conservative grassroots, of course.

That's why were asking for your help today. Will you donate today and prove that the conservative grassroots can beat out the liberal grassroots?

Republicans need to pick up 6 seats to take back the majority in the Senate and return Harry Reid to the minority where he belongs. This is our best opportunity to win a Michigan Senate seat since 1994 and the Democrats know it. Michigan is their firewall.

There is simply no scenario where Democrats can lose Michigan and still keep majority.

Michigan is the battleground that will decide control of the United States Senate. Joe Biden is coming here this week for the expressed purpose of trying to defeat me and rallying the Democrat base.

I find it funny though, that there is no real mention of why the recipient SHOULD support Land and the GOP. Just Democrat=Bad.

Kind of a microcosm of Land's whole campaign. "Elect me so I can be a Senator."

On April 23, Patriot Coal announced that it may have to lay off approximately 100 workers at 2 West Virginia mines, due to the fact that the mines are "simply operating at cost levels that exceed the prices that we can get at the marketplace," according to Patriot CEO Ben Hatfield.

Layoffs are awful and I don't want to belittle them, but, with or without new EPA regulations, does that analysis sound like the work of Adam Smith's "invisible hand" of the free market?

Not if you write for right-wing FreedomWorks.

MI-06 - Democratic Sneak Attack?

There may be more to it that the first glance reveals.

Michigan's 6th House District is classified as "Safe Republican" by Stephen Wolf at DKos Elections. It is an R+1 according to Cook PVI. The current inhabitant of Congress from MI-06 is GOP Rep. Fred Upton, who has been there since 1992. (First elected from MI-04 in 1986)

Republican+Republican+Republican=Republican, right?

Do I believe there is any chance, at this point in history, of something getting through a super-majority of both houses of Congress, and then agreed to by 38 state legislatures? I have but a razor-thin glimmer of hope.

However, it's worth putting some good ideas out there! Post your ideas for what we should enshrine in our Supreme Law in the comments.

1. Claim the President's plan is terrible, socialist, and job-destructive.

2. Repeat Item 1 in response to any challenge, or to any request for a counter-proposal.

Appendix A: Run from Grover Norquist like he's a rabid dog engulfed in flame. We need to show our principles by completely abandoning the principles we held just last year.

This should make negotiation easy, now hit the airwaves!  Let's get past this so we can move forward with some more abortion bills.

M-16 vs. Absentee Ballot. Which of these weapons is more powerful?

One of them, when used correctly, has the power to kill. The other, when used correctly, has the power to create positive change.

One of them is required to be kept clean. The other should be clean but is increasingly becoming soiled by those who claim to be cleaning it.

One of them has a fixed price. I refuse to let the other one be bought.

One of them I would love to get rid of, the other will be "pried from my cold, dead hands."

And one of them has a much better chance of ending the War in Afghanistan.
