Today, I was dismayed to check the news online and see that Barack Obama was opening great swathes of America to off-shore drilling. It felt like such a downer, you know? The health care win, republicans in shambles, but then, this? Really? It was kind of like eating a really great dinner, champagne, fillet Mignon, the works, only to find out dessert is a Twinkie. But then, I had a thought (very rare) and the evidence bears this thought out and if this thought is true, then Barack Obama is a brilliant and beautiful man.

Like most of you, I had grand visions two years ago. There was this man and he made me believe in the political process again. So much so that I gave up smoking so I could knock on more doors and make more phone calls to help get him elected. And when he was elected, I sat on my couch with my girlfriend--now fiance--and I cried. I cried because I was so happy, because I saw a brighter future.

Another Daily Kos member, Jestbill, made me aware of the latest and greatest pro-life craze(y): The Personhood Movement. I don't know how it slipped under my radar for so long...wait, yes I do, for the same reason I don't know what skinheads are up to, or the klan, or fifth column nazi scientists. Not because I don't care, but because I cannot stand to read that stuff much less research it. In this case, I will make an exception because it ties into the Stupak-Pitts amendment, which is disgusting, and is another brick in the very tall wall of female oppression, also disgusting. Sorry, ladies, apparently God and his ilk really have it in for you.

Daily Kos is an excellent place to go for detailed, well researched information about politics of all kinds. I loved how much more information I got regarding NY-23 here than I did from any other political web-site (I'm looking at you, CNN). However, when it comes to arguing on the fly with a conservative/republican, all the evidence in the world can't stop them from spouting crazy nonsense, especially if you don't have that evidence on your person at that very minute (birth certificate?). Nope, the only way to shut-up crazy is to use the same sort of convoluted logic that begat crazy in the first place. Every one here is way smart, smarter than me, so you probably haven't even considered this particular argument when it comes to defending a woman's right to choose...

There's a youtube clip on the Drudge Report, it's about 20 seconds long and features Barack Obama talking about a "civilian security force". The quote is taken out of context, in the longer version it's his standard stump speech talking about bringing back the peace corps, volunteerism to earn money for college etc. Stuff I absolutely agree with.

I have all the confidence in the world that Barack Obama will be elected President on November 4th. This confidence does not stop me from making phone calls or canvassing for my local--Omaha NE, or should I say Obamaha--Barack Obama campaign office. On November 4th, from 12-3, I will go wherever that office needs me to go. Nebraska, despite being deep red, has a few dents in its republican armor and I would like nothing more than to see a small see of blue on election day in my little burb and if it helps Jim Esch and Scott Kleeb get elected, even better.

My concerns are directed to the future, specifically towards those people who think that Barack Obama is a secret Muslim terrorist or Marxist or Commie or whatever. I bring this up because of something that happened yesterday...
