Austerity for the masses is still in the air, like napalm in the morning.  We've seen it happen in Europe and elsewhere and have wondered when it's really going to hit here at home.  It's not like most American citizens haven't already been subjected to austerity measures but the big ones are still looming.  The National Debt hasn't gone away and just keeps increasing. The Budget Deficit hasn't gone away. Those who want to make cuts to the Social Security program, Medicare and Medicaid programs and the Social Safety Net programs have not gone away. President Obama is or isn't for or against the cuts depending on what day it is and who you talk to. The Republicans have the bad cop act down pat. There is no good cop. Citizens United is in full effect now so who the hell knows what happens next but the budget numbers indicate the game is far from over.

Last summer we had the threats to shut down the federal government, not mail out Social Security and Veterans checks and basically completely disrupt American society because of the National Debt Limit Escapades presented by our Political Representatives Theatre Group.  Then the Catfood Commission was created and we had a whole bunch of bullshit that ended in nothing.  No change to the National Debt issue, no change to the Budget Deficit, and no change to the big "Entitlement" programs.  No way is that the end of it.  This summer we'll have more of the same.

4/20 and the Global War on Drugs

by BigAlinWashSt

Stardate - four twenty.  Smoke it if you got it.

The origination of the term 420 varies depending on who you ask but one of the more plausible and documented explanations goes like this:

"We’ve all heard the origin of 420: in Northern California in 1971, a group of San Rafael High School students (known as The Waldos) would meet by the Louis Pasteur statue to smoke pot after school at 4:20 p.m. The Pasteur statue was but an initial meeting point for The Waldos to search for wild pot growing in nearby Point Reyes. They never found the wild pot, but smoked plenty of their own during their quest. San Rafael was also the headquarters of the Grateful Dead whose fanbase embraced the code."

At any rate, the wonderful process of human evolution has slowly and inextricably pinpointed this day, April 20th, as national Mary Jane Day.  Light up because it won't come again until next year.  Or early tomorrow morning.  Or you could always stop your watch at just the right time.

"Further, the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event––like a new Pearl Harbor"

Project for a New American Century - "Rebuilding America's Defenses", September 2000.

The world watches as the chess pieces for a possible war with Iran are maneuvered, placed and reported.  The mainstream media informs the public of some of the moves and the officially sanctioned reasons but fails to inform them of the real reasons and the potentially catastrophic consequences.   Polls indicate a country tiring of war but surprising numbers still support military action depending how the situation is described.

Many who are watching fear the world is a provocation away from a very serious military conflict that could inflame the Middle East and bring Russia and China into the mix.  Both Russia and China have warned the U.S. against a military action.  The Chinese President has ordered the Chinese Navy to prepare for combat and Russia has sent warships to it's port in Syria.  It appears the U.S./U.K./Israel warmonger contingent may be trying to instigate such a provocation.

The Neocons are at it again on Iran.  Although most of us know the Neoconservatives are warmongering psychopaths intent on ruling the world, it's best to not disregard their power when it comes to U.S. foreign policies.  We learned that earlier this century. This time their message appears to be, bomb Iran now or the costs go up, and the United States can't afford those costs. The following report has surely been placed in the hands of every congress and senate member as well as in the Pentagon and the halls of the current democratic administration.  They appear to be trying to paint someone into a corner.

http://www.foreignpolicy.com/...

The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) has published a report titled, “Containing and Deterring a Nuclear Iran. Questions for Strategy, Requirements for Military Forces”.  The AEI is a conservative think tank founded in 1943 with the stated mission "to defend the principles and improve the institutions of American freedom and democratic capitalism—limited government, private enterprise, individual liberty and responsibility, vigilant and effective defense and foreign policies, political accountability, and open debate.

The AEI and the now defunct Project for a New American Century (PNAC) – since evolved into the Foreign Policy Initiative (FPI) are two of the most prominent thinktanks in Washington D.C. that contributed not only agendas and strategies for U.S. foreign policies, but personnel for G.W. Bush’s two miserable terms as President.  More than twenty AEI members served either in a Bush administration policy post or on one of the government's many panels and commissions. Basically, AEI is Neocon Central with members including John Bolton, Lynn Cheney, Dick Cheney, Newt Gingrich, Elliot Cohen, Frederick Kagan, and Richard Perle.  These are the people that want the U.S. to rule the world by hook or crook.   They’re also the people who most want the U.S. to militarily attack Iran as soon as possible.

Benefactor, Love Ya Man

by BigAlinWashSt

I'd like to thank the academy, my advisors, my lawyers, my nutritionist, my chef, and my yoga instructor.  And most of all, I'd like to thank the wonderful person, that anonymous benefactor who gave me a lifetime gift subscription to Daily Kos.  I can't let the occasion go by without saying such and there appears to be no other way to do it other than write a diary (post) or send a message to all 300K plus Kossacks from my Page.   I actually considered that second option but realized that might be a little tacky.  So I'll waste some space on the Recent Diaries list.  Anything derogatory I said about all the stupid diaries thanking others for lifetime subscriptions, please disregard. :)  I've learned that if it happens to you, you go with the flow.

Iran War Drums Still Beating

by BigAlinWashSt

We've heard it before.  The Iran government is evil and part of the axis of evil.  We're talking really evil, more evil than average citizens can imagine.   According to what we're told, Iran has declared itself an enemy of the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Israel and any other country that pisses them off.  They want to wipe Israel off the face of the earth.  When it comes down to it, the reason the Iran government is evil is because it is trying, at least according to the information given to the average citizen, to build a nuclear bomb.   Once they do that, they will be able to wipe Israel off the face of the earth and be able to better threaten the U.S., Britain, France, Germany, and any other country that pisses it off.  Nuclear weapons talk, bullshit walks.

There are approximately 25,000 nuclear weapons on earth.  But the overwhelming security concern of western civilization is about the possibility that an evil country in the Middle East may soon develop one.   One.  They have been "soon" developing one for about 20 years but that's beside the point.  The thing is, as with Saddam Hussein, the government officials in these Middle East countries are different from the government officials in western countries.  They will use the weapons of mass destruction, that nuclear bomb, on U.S. citizens.   As soon as they develop it they'll put it in a suitcase and send it to Chicago.  If not the U.S., they will surely target Israel.  And when it comes to national security in the Middle East, Israel and the U.S. are one.

Libya NTC wants NATO to Stay

by BigAlinWashSt

Amid more news of possible war crime atrocities commited by the Libyan rebels, the interim leader of Libya, Mustafa Adbel Jalil, says Nato should remain in the country for the rest of the year.

"We look forward to Nato continuing its operations until the end of the year to help prevent Gaddafi loyalists from leaving the country," said Jalil, adding that stopping the flight of Gaddafi supporters to other countries was a priority. "We seek technical and logistics help from neighbouring and friendly countries," he said.

NATO has indicated it will end operations on October 31st, however a meeting Friday is planned to address the issue.

Hundreds protested in Surrey, British Columbia last Thursday against fomer President George W. Bush as he arrived at his five star hotel.  Bush was in Surrey with his traveling buddy, former President Clinton, both among the keynote speakers at the annual Surrey Regional Economic Summit at the Sheraton Guildford Hotel.

Hundreds of protesters and various human rights groups such as Amnesty International chanted “Arrest Bush” and “Shame,” while calling on the Canadian government to arrest Bush for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Bush was seen smirking at the protesters and a deaf friend of mine who saw it on the boob tube told me Bush was mouthing, "Fuck em, they love me back in Texas."

Back in Texas on Sunday, former President Bush was in Arlington at the World Series game and was honored by throwing out the first pitch along with Hall of Fame baseball player Nolan Ryan. Ryan was introduced first to a rousing ovation.  Then Bush was introduced and the crowd literally went insane.  No shit, they absolutely went insane.  Forty five thousand people rose and clapped their asses off as Bush smirked his way to the mound, threw the ball to Ryan behind the plate and smirked back to his front row seat to the continuing roar of the crowd.  The look on his face was like that of juvenile delinquent when he thinks a cop believes his lie.

The Canadian protesters and human rights groups have demanded Canadian authorities arrest Bush for war crimes.   The Texas Rangers fans in Arlington, Texas have demanded a statue of Bush be erected outside the stadium.

The warmongering neocons are at it again, not that they've ever stopped.  The foreign policy "thinktank" Foreign Policy Initiative (FPI), the direct successor to the dreaded PNAC, Project for a New American Century, has issued another in their long line of bulletins.  Their modus operandi for written foreign policy analysis (telling administrations what to do) is to issue open letters to the President (Clinton, Bush and Obama so far) or periodic bulletins explaining their analysis that concludes we need more war, regime changes, or sanctions against the countries in the way of their global supremacy agenda.

For a reminder, PNAC was founded by William Kristol and Fred Kagan and included by signature, the likes of Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowicz, Douglas Feith, Scooter Libby, Donald Rumsfeld, John Bolton, Richard Armitrage, Elliot Abrams, and Richard Perle.  The successor organization, FPI, was founded in 2009, again by William Kristol along with Jamie Fly.  Signees of FPI bulletins and open letters include many of the same neocons and many more, like Karl Rove and Liz Cheney.

Is It Finally Iran's Turn?

by BigAlinWashSt

Following on the heels of the fabricated Iranian plot to assassinate a Saudi Ambassador among other things on American soil, a movie plot so bad Rotten Tomatoes wouldn't even bother to review, our President Obama has requested information from U.N Nuclear Weapons Inspectors to aid in the propaganda effort necessary to lie the United States into another war.  The long sought and awaited Iran war.

"President Obama is pressing United Nations nuclear inspectors to release classified intelligence information showing that Iran is designing and experimenting with nuclear weapons technology."

The Global War on Terror (GWOT) was authorized by Congress on 9/14/01 and enacted on 9/18/01 with the Authorization to Use Military Force Against Terrorists, Public Law 107-40.  That is over ten years of war with no sign of slowing down.

Do you want ten more years?  Really, it's a fair question, do you want ten more years of war?  We've seen the GWOT extend from Afghanistan to Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, and Libya (although under different rationale).  We've seen the creation of AFRICOM to facilitate the GWOT into the African continent.  We've seen enough haven't we?  Or should we keep on keeping on and go after Syria, Lebanon, Sudan, and Iran?  When does an overall plan become obvious?

This while the evidence clearly shows the planet's biggest "state sponsor of terrorism" is the United States itself.  Do you want the United States to now attack Iran and Syria, escalate in Pakistan, stay in Iraq and Afghanistan and extend the GWOT to at least 120 countries worldwide, after ten years of war?  That is ten more years right there.  If it isn't stopped, it will not end.

The GWOT started because of what happened on 9/11/01 in New York, Washington, D.C., and over the skies of Pennsylvania.  Over 3000 people were killed in a single day.

Since then, the United States has increased it's budget for defense, national security, and intelligence programs almost three fold to approximately $1.2 trillion per year.  These programs are funded from the discretionary portion of the U.S. budget, meaning Congress has discretion on the amount funded annually.  The $1.2 trillion price tag equals at least 65% of the entire discretionary budget.
