A collosal W....T....F is called for here. Apparently, a number of Democrats are attempting to torpedo the party's chances for 2008.

Remember Carolyn McCarthy's introduced-every-year Assault Weapons Ban II, this version, HR 1022, being one that'd outlaw, by name, dozens of sporting rifles never used in crimes as well as nearly every legal semiautomatic handgun?

Remember how people posted that it was just her, that the Dems would never slip back into that election-losing rhetoric, that they'd focus on Iraq and the real issues?

Well. Guess WHAT. It's got EIGHTEEN COSPONSORS as of today. And...yes, they are ALL Democrats!

(Update, 3/14 - Now 26 cosponsors, all Democrats)

Has anyone ever counted how many times Bush mentions September 11th, whether he's talking about terrorism elsewhere, Israel's bombing of Lebanon, hurricanes here, the economy, just about any subject?

Here's just a few examples of the insipid, infuriating repetition of only the past few months. Below the cut...

Well, it's official. Bush has now publically said it. So. When do the troops we don't have set out for Tehran?

(AP) 7/27 "Hezbollah attacked Israel. I know Hezbollah is connected to Iran," Bush said tersely at the end of Oval Office meetings with Romanian President Traian Basescu. "Now is the time for the world to confront this danger," Bush said.

The new Islamist militias ruling Mogadishu have arrested people for watching videos, shot and killed people for watching a World Cup broadcast, and broken up a non-Islamic wedding for allowing men and women to mix and for playing music. They confiscated the band's instruments, then beat the band members with electrical cables.

So when is "tolerance" of a culture too much tolerance? Sharia in itself is a violent, dark-ages system of law that allows for such lovely things as the stoning-to-death of "adulterous women", and, of course, the execution of gays. Judged, sentenced and executed by religion, not by a court of laws, not by a jury of peers, and no right to counsel in defense.

The House voted Tuesday to forbid the use of credit cards for online gambling. The measure also would empower law enforcement authorities to work with Internet providers to block access to gambling Web sites. Want to think why this is a DANGEROUS precedent?

NEW YORK (AP) - A singer whose songs have topped the Billboard dance chart was attacked by a group yelling anti-gay slurs, and four people were arrested on hate-crime charges, police and his publicist said.

Kevin Aviance, 38, underwent surgery for a broken jaw after the attack Saturday, said his publicist, Len Evans. Police said the singer, whose song "Alive" hit the top of the chart in 2002, was in stable condition.

A group of six or seven men attacked Aviance early Saturday, and passers-by did not stop to help as they threw objects at him, Evans said.

So it begins. Just as the anti-Jew rhetoric preceded Krystallnacht, the anti-gay rhetoric has preceded tacitly approved anti-gay violence. Did they really think this wouldn't happen?

Or were they counting on it?
