With the 2012 election just under a year away the Louisiana Democratic Party is on a mission—a mission of rebuilding. There is no disputing that Democrats have taken some hits over the years in a state with a majority of Democratic voters. That doesn’t mean that our one time Blue state has to stay the course of conservative control. Louisiana Democratic Party Chairman Buddy Leach has declared this a time for the party to get back to basics and to rebuild from the ground up. This is no simple task, but it is an attainable and necessary one.
Democrats in Louisiana know that the likes of Bobby Jindal, David Vitter and Congressman Fleming couldn’t be more wrong for our jobs, children and our fragile, yet bountiful, ecosystem. Their out of touch behavior and polarizing political rhetoric is just as dangerous as their anti-regulation, Tea Party platforms. Louisiana Democrats want jobs, they want their Social Security and Medicare protected, they want our precious environment protected and they want an education system that allows our children to succeed. These ideals are what fuel our campaign for change and what we hope will inspire others to join us.
As a grassroots organization, the Louisiana Democratic Party is taking a 64 parish approach to rebuilding our party. In recent months the party worked with local officials and activists in 4 parishes to reestablish our Democratic Parish Executive Committees (DPECs) where they were previously inactive. Our accomplishments in East and West Feliciana, East Carroll and Claiborne Parishes are exciting, but they are just the beginning. We know that we must continue the job until all 64 of our parishes have active committees again that are recruiting and training our Democratic candidates and advocating for our Democratic ideals. Our parish committees are the front lines for Democratic victory at the local, Congressional and statewide level and we know that we must start with them and build our structure up. There is no skipping ahead or taking shortcuts if we want to build a sustainable and successful Democratic Party in Louisiana.
Finally, we can look to the past to avoid repeating mistakes in the future, but now is the time to look toward the future-- the future that we can build together for Louisiana, and the country. Please stand in support with us and read our blogs about the progress we make and the challenges we face. You can also make a contribution to our grassroots effort of $5, $10, $25 or any other amount you would like to give and we will put it to use rebuilding our party structure one Democrat at a time. Please follow us on our journey and cheer us on along the way. Your support will help us meet our goal of turning Louisiana Blue again, putting Louisiana First.
