Tom Perez, former prosecutor, civil rights attorney and consumer advocate, and current member of the Montgomery County Council, showed this writer a willingness to think outside the box to tackle important problems as he runs for Attorney General during an interview this week.

Saying that "only about 10% of the job" of the Attorney General is traditional criminal prosecution, he pointed to "the breadth and depth of experience I bring to the job" and the "number of unique perspectives on how government and the law can be used to serve people well" as reasons he would best be able to serve the people of Maryland. As anti-terrorism hysteria sweeps the globe, otherwise rational people are agreeing to give up ever more of their liberty and privacy in a vain effort to be safe. One of the more perplexing choices is how far to allow cameras into our lives. The following is just one of many examples of steps our governments are taking or considering that makes this writer nervous:

Hello. Anyone interested in getting a collaborative Maryland political web log started?

It seems like a lot of writers, activists, and those involved in the policymaking or political processes have information and insights to share, we just need a way to do something. I'm doing some MD political blogging on my blog at http://onbackground.blogspot.com/ and crossposting on Polstate, but someone suggested collaborating.
