HBO Films: Game Change (The Trailer)

by RaulVB

Probably already posted here and this is not much of a diary but I have to say that HBO produces fascinating political dramas.

In this one Julianne Moore plays...Sarah Palin and Ed Harris plays John McCain...

The movie premieres March 20, 2012. After watching the trailer and reading about this will shows everybody how unreal was to have Sarah Palin as McCain's running mate.

Annoying Phrases Anyone?

by RaulVB

Perhaps because I am battling a Summer Cold (and that is annoying!) I started to think in the annoying phrases that I have to hear every day while at work or in the street. Some examples:

- I'm/I was like...
- Huh?
- At the end of the day
– Fairly unique
– I personally
– At this moment in time
– With all due respect
– Absolutely
– 24/7
- 110 %
– It’s not rocket science
- The customer is always right
- Snarky
- They are Heroes
- Well, the problem, If you will...
- The thing is...
- Whatever
- It is what it is.
- It's all good
- To be honest
- No offense
- Don't get me wrong
- Everything happens for a reason
- Going/looking/moving forward

Happy Labor Day!

Union Maid

Words and Music by Woody Guthrie

"There once was a union maid, she never was afraid
Of goons and ginks and company finks and the deputy sheriffs who made the raid.
She went to the union hall when a meeting it was called,
And when the Legion boys come 'round
She always stood her ground.

Oh, you can't scare me, I'm sticking to the union,
I'm sticking to the union, I'm sticking to the union.
Oh, you can't scare me, I'm sticking to the union,
I'm sticking to the union 'til the day I die..."

I have read the writings of Frederick Clarkson before and I do not participate on his diaries because I think reading them is what matters more often than not. In any case, his new diary is one of the reasons why I want to be a part of DKos. See here:

It serves to illustrate that this site is WAAAY ahead of the "job" that the American Corporate Media does today. To see Cafferty and Blitzer claiming in CNN not to know what Dominionism is it is simply embarrassing considering that both men GET PAID to learn about this type of stuff, especially when "mainstream Presidential candidates" are involved in the picture.

This should remind us that even when the Beltway wants to ignore what is done here, out there in the real world facts are in OUR side.

A Corporation is not a real person or a "collection of people" [according to Rand Paul's legal knowledge probably acquired in a cereal box] and no, Corporations are NOT people, Mr. Romney.

I will be quite hyperbolic in the next few line to put this nonsense to rest quickly. Corporations are:

" entities created under the laws of a state designed to establish the entity (s) as a separate legal figure having its own privileges and liabilities distinct from those of its members. There are many different forms of corporations, most of which are used to conduct business...

Despite not being natural persons, corporations are recognized by the law to have rights and responsibilities like natural persons ("people")"

Real Life and Poverty

by RaulVB

I see Boehner and Cantor's pictures almost any time I visit the site. I was wondering, what is the cost of the suits and the ties they are wearing?

I saw a homeless gentleman earlier (mind you, I see them everyday where I live) but for whatever reason the sight hit me hard this time, can't really explain it...

I would like to see some more of the well written, excellent diaries dealing with the subject of Poverty in America and the Homeless in the future. If anything this site should have a well defined place for them, they should be up and front here daily, at the end of the day what matters to many of us is not the fund-raising done by some DC politician who doesn't listen to people or is not living in the real world.

Politics "from the bottom up" means to care about those who are around us and deserve much, much better.

For the longest time I have been trying to find the silver lining out of all this mess. Truth is that Barack Obama went to "dine" with that fine Gentleman and others like him, George Will, right after elected, not with you or me or my neighbor, he went to talk and pay homage to George Will and the conservative "intellectuals" like him in DC.

This is not a diary and is not even trying to be one. What I need to say tonight is that, please, quit second guessing my speaking out against a man who was elected to lead this nation and instead has done nothing but embracing Right Wing talking points and now has decided to abuse those amongst us who really need justice and a fair shake.

That compromise of his, that "sacrifice" of his is obscene and immoral and I reject it out of decency.

Feel free to cheer though.

That's all.

I have thought about his last round of well deserved and well justified outrage on this site for few days. As many of you know I criticize this President when I have to and I have no problem doing so. But reality is that at this point and as a result of some s things he did in the past, wrong assumptions, bad political moves over-confidence, call it what you will, Democrats lost Congress in 2010 and the we have had a bunch of lunatics occupying those seats and they will be there until 2012.

Yes, yes, Obama does sound like a moderate Republican which shows you how crazy is the current GOP. Then again, by raising this false problem, the "let's take care of the deficits now!" Obama is simply trying to prevent even more crazy talk in the next two years.

There is no "55th dimensional chess" being played here and no, Obama is not more intelligent than Einstein as his fanatic supporters want to think, but in this case he is just trying to take care of the wave of stupidity and force the GOP to focus on the 2012 elections. He knows that he will win in 2012, so let's try to put more good Democrats in Congress and force the country to move a bit to the center.

Obama is not a disappointment

by RaulVB

Since many here post and reply to diaries because they are living in the reality based world and are part of a reality based community, let's really focus on what's going on.

President Barack Obama is not a disappointment and he's done and will continue to do what his moderate "Right-of-the-Center" agenda dictates. Yes, for some he is a "Liberal" a "Progressive". I disagree with those observers on that point.

Many things can be argued about him, but if you were paying attention to the primaries against Hillary Clinton, his positions back then were clear cut. The way in which his PR team sold the candidate, wrapped around the ideas of Hope and Change were the problem for the people who saw what they wanted to see in Obama.

Did you hear the last one about LeBron?

by RaulVB

I am in an excellent mood, so here it goes a non-diary:

"LeBron will publish his autobiography as soon as he can come up with a title.

LeBron just announced he’ll play in the NHL next season since they only have three periods.

LeBron will never make change for you as he could never find the fourth quarter.

What is the difference between Saturn and LeBron? Saturn has rings.

Today is national LeBron James day; everyone gets to leave work 12 minutes early.

LeBron lost his cell phone, if you see it you’ll know it’s his since it doesn’t have a ring.

The reason why LeBron skipped college is because he would a hard time showing up for the finals.

LeBron and I both woke up this morning without an NBA championship.

Steve Jobs just announced the new iPhone LeBron James edition: it has no rings, only vibrates."

I am watching this highly interesting movie as I type and I would recommend it to all really interested in politics. The plot goes like this:

"William Russell (Henry Fonda) and Joe Cantwell (Cliff Robertson) are the two leading candidates for the presidential nomination of an unspecified political party. Both have potentially fatal vulnerabilities. Russell is a principled intellectual (believed by many critics and fans to be based on Adlai Stevenson). A sexual indiscretion has alienated his wife Alice (Margaret Leighton). In addition, he has a past nervous breakdown to live down. Cantwell (believed to be based upon John F. Kennedy with some Richard Nixon and Joseph McCarthy mixed in) portrays himself as a populist "man of the people", and patriotic anti-communist campaigning to end "the missile gap" (a Kennedy campaign catch-phrase), but is a ruthless opportunist, willing to go to any lengths to get the nomination. Neither man can stand the other; neither believes his rival qualified to be President."

Question (s) about Andrew Breitbart

by RaulVB

Out of curiosity and this not a diary, evidently, I have wondered why this lying low-life piece of waste gets away with lying, distorting, fabricating and manipulating information and facts while receiving aid and comfort from "reputed liberal" media outlets such as CNN and The New York Times amongst many others.

Why is that the case, you guys think?

It is simply because these "media outlets" make a buck out of it?

Again, I find all this Breitbart "noise" and the media enabling it rather disturbing and I am curious.
