The number 1 issue Congresspeople heard from voters over Memorial Day was corruption.  So let's get those GOP corruption diaries going if we want to win the House and Senate this Fall.

This is a BIGGIE.  Although it is well known that $9 billion in Iraq reconstruction money was never accounted for,  it was thought an Inspector General named by the Congress for oversight would produce some kind of audit on the $9 billion, not to mention the $12 billion in cash supposedly sent to Iraq straight from the Federal Reserve.  

Bush, however, whipped up a "signing statement", one of those 750 Presidential findings that was revealed in April by the Boston Globe, which neutered the audit by declaring anything to do with the Pentagon a classified security issue!  
The GOP Congress enabled Bush all the way on this outrageous signing, essentially covering up the likely theft of the urgently needed Reconstruction Fund.

Now no one is "Following the Money"...

The Progressive Answer to Illegal Immigration: DEVELOP MEXICO - Update: Begin w/90 "micro-regions"! made the Rec List and began a great dialogue.  

It came up, thanks to Serrano, that the poorest 90 micro-regions, hardest hit by the 70% drop in corn prices since 1994, are the places that the illegal immigrants are fleeing.  

Figuring $4 million per micro-region 3-year program (an estimate from my NGO work), a large part of the illegal immigration problem could be permanently solved through a new approach to international development called the "Regenerative Zone Method".  This is based on Soil Science, Organic farming methods and "Regenerative Economics".  It's development from the bottom up instead of the failed, top-down policies of the past.

This would cost around $360 million to regenerate the 90 poorest Mexican micro-regions, far less than the several billion dollars to build, staff and maintain a useless border wall.

Of course we must also end the dumping of cheap US agribusiness corn into Mexico.

The NW Progressive Institute has the real answer to illegal immigration, now at 3 million per year: develop the Mexican economy and educational system.  Not only would this keep Mexican workers at home, it eventually creates new markets for our exports.  The important beginning is to let them produce their own food and other items profitably and let wages rise down south as the economy and infrastructure develops.

American exports of corn have tripled, while real prices of corn in Mexico have fallen 70% since 1994! This has affected 15 million Mexican farm families.

The advantages to this approach are numerous, beginning with the avoidance of silly spending on low-wage soldiers running around in the desert trying to catch an evil tide of Jack-in-the-Box counter clerks. If the same dollars were spent on schools, it would give the carpenters among those counter clerks work on that side of the border. Second, and more importantly, it would generate human capital there. And both sooner and later it would generate well-being, a truly indigenous economy, and even real demand for US goods.

Nothing proves that the criminal Culture of Corruption went straight to the top than today's article in the NY Times.  Jack Abramoff not only installed his own secretary in Rove's office (Susan Ralston), the head of the GSA was his own personal lackey, as now proven by e-mails finally given to prosecutors.

RECOMMEND! - This is huge for Easter family conversations.  Down with the Culture of Corruption (Down with the Republican Party).

''The e-mails demonstrate that Mr. Safavian's relationship with Mr. Abramoff was highly inappropriate,'' prosecutors wrote in a court filing accompanying the e-mails.

QUESTION: Mr. Fitzgerald, you've said that there was damage done to all of us, damage to the entire nation. Can you be any more specific about what kind of damage you're talking about?

FITZGERALD: The short answer is no. But I can just say this: I'm not going to comment on things beyond what's said in the indictment.

I can say that for the people who work at the CIA and work at other places, they have to expect that when they do their jobs that classified information will be protected. And they have to expect that when they do their jobs, that information about whether or not they are affiliated with the CIA will be protected.

And they run a risk when they work for the CIA that something bad could happen to them, but they have to make sure that they don't run the risk that something bad is going to happen to them from something done by their own fellow government employees.

But getting to the specifics of the damage, I won't.

Must-See TV ALERT: Hinchey on Countdown tonight at 8:10 PM on NigerGate!

Please see this magnificent Progressive as he calls for Fitz to expand the investigation to the 16-word lie in the State of the Union.  There was a letter from Hinchey to Fitz that SG posted in a diary about the SOTU lies, so he is very informed about which laws were broken by Bush.

He wants to win the Congress in 2006 and then impeach Bush in 2007.

Scooter Libby once quipped to an aide that he planned to stay as Vice President Dick Cheney's top adviser until "I get indicted or something."

I. Lewis Libby Jr., Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, first learned about the C.I.A. officer at the heart of the leak investigation in a conversation with Mr. Cheney weeks before her identity became public in 2003, lawyers involved in the case said Monday.

Notes of the previously undisclosed conversation between Mr. Libby and Mr. Cheney on June 12, 2003, appear to differ from Mr. Libby's testimony to a federal grand jury that he initially learned about the C.I.A. officer, Valerie Wilson, from journalists, the lawyers said.

The notes, taken by Mr. Libby during the conversation, for the first time place Mr. Cheney in the middle of an effort by the White House to learn about Ms. Wilson's husband, Joseph C. Wilson IV, who was questioning the administration's handling of intelligence about Iraq's nuclear program to justify the war.

Also Jim Leherer is going to have a segment on it.  Sherlock Google noted that Rumsfeld's lawyer Dugan was forced to admit by Specter that not only could Atta NOT be considered a US Person, the FBI should thus have been warned.

Specter had to draw it out of him.  Watch Dugan as he is forced into admitting this.  Not what Rummy wanted.

If Atta cannot be a US Person, that means the FBI should have been informed by the DIA's Schoomaker and Franks and Atta and the 3 others would have been arrested.

9-11 would have never happened.

Please start asking why the media has not investigated the possiblility that Rove and Roger Stone perpetrated the TANG Forgeries.  And please e-mail this diary to Olbermann and Hinchey and everyone else investigating Gannon and TANG.


Hinchey is just asking for an investigation of an obvious crime and giving the most likely place to start looking.  He told Hannity that hunting down corruption is one reason a Rep goes to Washington and "you know that".  And he said the TANG Forgeries and Gannon is the corruption of the media and our very democracy.

It now appears that Jeff Gannon could be the thread that unravels the real story behind the TANG/CBS forgeries.  I have put together a case here that if looked at carefully by the blogosphere would show that the TANG forgeries were made by the White House, probably Dan Bartlett, and then given to Bill Burkett by a former associate of Karl Rove, Roger Stone.  Stone's wife, Nydia, who is Cuban, was most likely the Hispanic lady on the phone who convinced Burkett the documents were real and that he should burn them after copying them to protect her honor.

The hot rumor in New York political circles has Roger Stone, the longtime GOP activist, as the source for Dan Rather's dubious Texas Air National Guard "memos."

Gannon was apparently used by the White House to ID Mapes as the CBS producer and to try and conflate the Abu Ghraib photos she revealed as sourceless as the TANG docs.
