Maybe we’ve been going about this all wrong. Instead of advocating for gun control legislation, maybe we should be advocating for the greatest piece of gun “freedom” legislation this nation has ever seen — The “Open Carry in the Halls of Congress” Act.
The premise is simple — any firearm owned or purchased legally in any of the 50 States can be carried anywhere in the Halls of Congress. The Gallery. The Hallways. Congressional Offices. Anywhere.
You approach the metal dectector, with your shiny AR-15 draped across your shoulder. Simply show the Capitol police offer either a purchase receipt from a state where you can buy that AR-15 legally, or a driver’s license from a state where you can own that AR-15 legally, and congratulations!!! You may now roam the halls of Congress with your fully loaded semi-automatic weapon. There will be plenty of good guys with guns there to stop any bad guys with guns, so there would be no reason to worry.
And perhaps any GOP Congressman or Senator who either voted against this bill or refused to bring it up for a hearing or vote, could explain why this setup is completely fine for our kids in school, but not for members of Congress.
It’s a piece of legislation that both gun-control advocates and freedom-loving gun-rights members of Congress should ALL be able to support. Right?
