It was interesting to read a blog post dated from Independence Day 2014, titled, “Thirteen facts about America conservatives would like you to forget.” This was posted by Richard Riis and was most interesting and informative.
I do have something to say about the first fact regarding the “left-wing” status of the “tea party” in Boston. It seems this is being compared to “Occupy...” movements today. I disagree.
The wealthiest man in Boston in the late 1700s was John Hancock. Hancock ran a successful shipping business importing rum, Madeira wine, and molasses from the islands. It is speculated that he also smuggled much of these products into Boston. There is also speculation that he may have murdered a British Customs agent who had discovered his smuggling business.
Perhaps none of this is conclusive, but there are sources which suggest Hancock hid his smuggling (Watergate, anyone?) so well that he contrived various anti-tax ideas which were not as prominent to the concern of the masses, but became so after Hancock controlled the “media” and the “minds of the masses,” thus he “made a mountain out of a mole hill.” Hancock’s true intentions were to, as one source said, find more tax breaks for businesses like his — the “big ones” of the day. Sounds like “corporate tax breaks!” He never really cared to lower taxes for the masses, but used that as part of the coverup for his smuggling, which was contrary to paying duties on imports.
The “Occupy… “ movements today are working against Wall Street, big business, and its corporate tax breaks, in order to create a more just environment overall. The “tea party” people in the 1770s had no such intention and would have been opposed by the “Occupy...” movements.
King George, in fact, was as stupid and idiotic as Shrub in the White House was. And it was the king’s knee-jerk reaction to the situation which caused all the problems in America. Had there been a man with more wisdom occupying the British throne, the American Revolution may never have happened and much bloodshed could have been spared. But in fact, he dug in his heals, rather than seeking wisdom about the entire situation and working things out to avert the fighting.
Kind of reminds me of the bankers and big business people in Britain who are digging in their heals against the Brexit vote, even after a laborer told a group of wealthy leaders, “we have been punched in the face, how does it feel for YOU to be punched in the face?” Not a statement about immigration, but a statement about how the big banks and big business. bribing and paying off politicians, continue on the same track for gushing funds upward and eliminating the “Robin Hood” approach.
It’s no different in America. The bankers and big business people continue to insist they have a right to screw college students and put them in debt and reduce wages for all below living wages (rather than to keep up with cost of living). While these events are happening, executives steal money from the working people by giving themselves raises of 40% or better (while working folks barely squeeze by with 1% or 2%, if at all), steal from employee nest eggs (whether Social Security or pensions — or both) to pay exorbitant bonuses and golden parachutes (even after failure), and increase the gap between lowest and highest paid employees to about 225% (compare that to the 1970s).
The “true” revolution never happened in the USA, but it did in France, where the people at the top, as the case for finance executives (aka, Wall Street) considered criminals in Iran, were beheaded. The American Revolution was one which supported the “slave owners” (figuratively used for Yankees) like John Hancock, while Americans have been mesmerized with mind games.
Funny. But notice how the royalty in Britain no longer dug in their heals once the French executed the monarchy there. But then, the French had to endure brutal hardship by the “little man” named Napoleon. Not a good scene, but is it worth it, in order to force the heals of wealthy people out of the dirt and to break their backs? Criminals on Wall Street and in financial quarters need to be aware. And if they try a “financial Martial law,” they are screwing things up even more — a bunch of loan sharks and thugs and GOONS being hardassed against good people who are just asking for living wages. This is being asked of people with billions and billions and billions of dollars who, even losing HALF of their goddamn fortunes would have more than any of us have. They need to pay their fair share of taxes and do so with a good conscience, not because WE THE PEOPLE bring such dolts to shame.
