It's always sad to me to learn of someone passing away that I would have liked to have known about and promoted as a hero. On October 23, 2014, at the age of 85, Bernard Mayes died. Mr Mayes was the founder of the first suicide prevention hotline in the United States and first chairman of NPR (National Public Radio)

What a great idea. SolarCity is offering bonds starting at $1000 each, giving regular folks a way to invest in solar energy.
It’s a way for a company to build up capital to finance future expansions, particularly in its start-up years. SolarCity’s bonds will be sold in $1,000 increments, and will be available to any U.S. citizen, 18 or older, with a domestic bank account. The bonds will mature in one, two, three, or seven years, and will offer interest rates between two and four percent.

Sacramento Meetup Report
We had an awesome meetup in Sacramento last Saturday (Sep. 6th) at the home of our host, the lovely and ever gracious kestrel.
Unfortunately she was in considerable pain from ongoing back issues. So we made every attempt to make sure she only had to open her doors and hold court with her dogs.
Your hosts, tgypsy, gotmooned and I took care of everything else, or tried to. Kestrel wasn't being a very compliant patient. ;)

Wow! We are already up to
14 18 participants! We still have room for more though!
Please plan to join us Saturday September 6th from 4-7pm for a fun, casual potluck hosted by kestrel. (BYOB if you prefer adult beverages)
Just saw a tweet from Derek Cressman who is leading the Yes on Proposition 49 campaign (Money Out Voters In) noting that the CA Supreme Court blocked the proposition from the ballot.
Approved by the Legislature early last month and grudgingly allowed to go on the ballot by Gov. Jerry Brown, Proposition 49 would have asked California voters if Congress should overturn the U.S. Supreme Court’s controversial Citizens United ruling in 2010.
California campaign finance measure booted off ballot
The California Supreme Court on Monday effectively blocked a November advisory ballot measure on the merits of unlimited independent campaign spending, dashing some Democrats’ hopes that the measure would boost voter turnout in what could be an otherwise staid election.
