IS DEATH ALWAYS TO BE CERTAIN?

by dollparty

As we all probably know, the two things currently considered certain for our lives in America are Death & Taxes, and if the American GOP at large should attain wish fulfillment, Death may survive as our only certainty, or will it absolutely have to?

The ad changes so make sure you are accessing the ad version that shows the Arm view. This version has a large dark spot visible and it is that specific spot that gives me pause. Why? See after the squiggle...

A Court tax victory for secularism

by dollparty

------------------------------------------------------------

A Federal District Court in the USA has declared a religious income tax exemption unconstitutional, fixing a huge leak  that allows religious ministers of all stripes  – priests, rabbis, imams and others – to avoid income tax payment for a  considerable part of their salaries. The so-called parish exemption is currently benefitting about 44,000 religious salary earners and costing U.S. tax payers some $ 700 million a year.

The law, 26 U.S. C. § 107(2), “provides a benefit to religious persons and no one else”...  “It violates the establishment clause of the U.S. Constitution and must be discontinued,” ruled District Court Judge Barbara B. Crabb of the Western District of Wisconsin on 22^nd November 2013 in a lawsuit that had been brought by the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF). The ruling is a major court victory for secularism.

The parish exemption has been on the books since 1954. Its sponsors, back in the fifties, made no bones about their anti-secular spirit: They openly called for creating a reward for religious ministers for carrying on a “courageous fight against the godless and anti-religious world movement”. This “reward” costs U.S. taxpayers an estimated $ 2.3 billion from 2002-2007 alone, still more in the years since.

The encouraging court victory does not put an immediate end to the unconstitutional flow of extra dollars into clerical pockets. Appeals against the ruling are announced. And the case comes only into effect after all appeals are exhausted. In another relevant case in 2010, Judge Barbara Crabb declared the National Day of Prayer unconstitutional, but her ruling was overturned in 2011. It is expected that the influential clergy will move heaven and earth to achieve the same outcome here.

Before the case came up in court, there were attempts to “bribe” the complainant. Since the FFRF pointed out that the parish exemption gave privileges exclusively to religious organizations while denying them to all other tax exempt groups (like for example the FFRF itself), the federal government was quick to offer them tax breaks - which they, however,  categorically rejected.

So here are Cheers to The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) which brought the law suit.

Will it go to The SCOTUS eventually? I (dollparty) will be patiently waiting to see.

While those aged 34 years and under are still the most prolific users of the text message abbreviations, new research has found that two-thirds of all adults now use them. Further, abbreviations, via text messaging, are now being used by half of people who are over 55-years of age. Now that research finding certainly has me (dollparty) LOL and with much gusto also. Why?

Would you believe: prevention of cancer; inhibition of immunosuppression; a treatment for Jetlag; for serving as a potent body  antioxidant; as therapy for preventing the progression of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders and  also as the familiar use as a sleep aid.

Undoubtedly many DK readers will have no interest in reading this Diary although, since so many persons in the general public are seemingly very much interested in cancer prevention and also have sleep problems  I would not be able to fathom as to why that just a few DKers at the least might not choose to learn something of potential value for them from this Diary especially since almost all DKers would not have access to the source data at :

Disclosure: Having read Anton Bursch’s Diary “How to get on the Daily Kos Recommended List” on Wed Apr 24, 2013 I state here that my interest and enjoyment in publishing Diaries to The Daily Kos Community section lies predominately in providing a source of data that I assume that most DKers would not encounter in the course of their daily readings. By writing such Diaries there are no ulterior motivations on my part, such as making the Recommended List. Rather, it is my sincere hope that at least one DKer might gain some personal useful knowledge from what is written.
Harkening back to Anton’s  Bursch’s article just mentioned please all note that I certainly can not muster a state of”passion” for my Diary subject after alleging above, that” many DK readers will have no interest in reading this Diary.”
So, for the few and intrepid with even a modicum of interest please venture below the squiggle.

CHRISTIANITY WITHOUT GOD,a Diary redo

by dollparty

This Diaries perspective , arrived at by my having attended a book review recently of the text “Christianity Without God” written by “Lloyd Geering . [Sir Lloyd George Geering ONZ GNZM CBE, is a New Zealand theologian, who faced charges of heresy in 1967 for his controversial views “] and my subsequently accidentally coming across the article on “Christians why are we losing our religion.” by Craig Groeschel at the site referenced above.
The books  review was presented by one David Rxxxx  [to The Book Review sub Group of The Humanists of the Sarasota Bay Area”HUSBAY”] and coincidentally to an aspect of my, dollparty,) interests, I disclose here  the fact that both the Foxnews Opinion writer and the book reviewer are church Ministers. Indeed, Rev. Groschel is the Minister in the second largest church, LifeChurch.tv in Edmond, Okla.  As such he is no light weight in the Christian ministerial field and you as a reader of DK you can see above that Sir Geering , who incidentally was found to be innocent of the charge of “Heresy” is no light weight as a Theologian either.
So now I would like to lead you DK viewers from the Concept of Gods, through the Concept of A God and onto  progress relating to the concept of man, as some of mankind  do, relate to A God and to religion as I have gleaned it to be and in what I write below and also quote from the book report.
So, follow below if U have any interest.

IS THE TRADITIONAL IDEA OF GOD ANY LONGER ESSENTIAL TO CHRISTIANITY?

Disclosure: This Diary has been written despite my having previously been given notice by a frequent DK Front Page writer to the effect of relating his (?) disapproval of my use of reference to data located at “Conservative Sites”. He admonished that DK readers know where to go to get access to Conservative View Points.
With this information in Ur minds, DK Readers are also admonished by me [me still puzzling over the above mentioned disapproval rational] to read on with caution since http://www. foxnews.com/opinion/2013/04/07/christians-why-were-losing-our-religion/?intcmp=obnetw is used as one reference by me in order to write this Diary.                                                                                                                         Indeed, you are urged to find UR OWN Conservative sites to read in order to avoid heaping onus on this Diary writer who assures said frequent front page writer that the data herein is written from a liberal religious “Free Thought” AND DEFINITELY NON CONSERVATIVE perspective.

This Diaries perspective is arrived at by my having attended a RECENT book review of the text “CHRISTIANITY WITHOUT GOD” written by Lloyd Geering  [Sir Lloyd George Geering ONZ GNZM CBE, is a New Zealand theologian, who faced charges of heresy in 1967 for his controversial views ] and my subsequently accidentally coming across the article on “CHRISTIANS WHY ARE WE LOSING OUR RELIGION” by Craig Groeschel at the site referenced above.
