CA Election May 19, 2009

by EmilyD

I'm sick with a lousy cold so not up to writing a full-on diary myself about the upcoming (and mostly ignored) CA election. So I will instead offer some good advice from the Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club a terrific progressive Bay Area group. (Click on the link to read their statement about the following voting advice.)

Note: If you are registered for permanent absentee ballot you should probably mail it in today.

ELECTION WATCH PARTIES

by EmilyD

I've been compiling this list for the past four days. It's got a lot of gaps in it still but I'm hoping to get enough recommends from all you hard-working, dedicated, activated, creative, wonderful Kossacks worldwide.

If you know of an election watch party that is not on this list please post it below and I'll add it asap.

I know so many of you are up to your eyeballs in the most intensive work of your political lives. I'm fighting a bad case of burnout myself but WE'RE IN THE FINAL LAP of this go-round and regardless of the outcome of today's historic election WE HAVE SO MUCH TO CELEBRATE!

I'm into Day 3 of this list. The largest addition is this link to a national list of Drinking Liberally parties and some great sounding additions for Arizona (guess they can't wait to celebrate the end of John McCain's career advancements) Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Thanks to all the great Kossacks who shared information. I hope to hear from more of you!

Election Day Watch Parties

by EmilyD

Photobucket

I'll be out of town on election day and although I'll still be working for MoveOn (via motel WiFi) I found it difficult to locate an election watch party in the area. I thought perhaps I might not be the only one with this problem and therefore decided to use my diary to post information nationwide for such events. Please post any election watch parties you know of below and I'll add them to the list.

Please provide the following info:

State
City
Address
Relevent link or contact info
RSVP infomation
Start time
Anything else you think is important

DISCLAIMER: I can't vouch for any of these events so be sure to check them out for yourself before committing to attending one of them.

Sculptural Gifts for the GOP

by EmilyD

When am I going to learn not to bother posting before 8pm Pacific? Non-screed posts simply have to wait for the slower, more thoughtful night crew to read them. I hope you'll find this re-post of interest:

Some of you may have been following my regular posts, over the past month of political artwork as I prepared for my first solo show down in Joshua Tree, CA.

You can see my entire group of sculptures online HERE. I'm hoping it will blow your socks off!

Well my show was part of a national collaboration of artists and galleries called, Art of Democracy (which has some excellent art exhibits going on right now all over the country.) There was another gallery just down the Twentynine Palms Hwy (not far from the marine base which has lost over 130 soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan) called Red Arrow Gallery that had an opening reception in collaboration with my gallery, True World Gallery.

This is the final in my series of sculptures (nine in all) that I'm exhibiting online at my blog (where you can see larger images of this and the other sculptures) and at True World Gallery, in Joshua Tree, CA. The gallery is just a few miles down the highway from Twentynine Palms Marine Base. Over 127 soldiers from Twentynine Palms Marine Base have perished in Iraq and Afghanistan since March 2003. Source

The exhibit is also part of a national coalition of galleries and artists called, Art of Democracy.
