There is an article about Katrina victims brought to bankruptcy. The crux of the article is how the new bankruptcy law is about to take affect compounding these peoples problems even further.
Some politicians have discussed waiving the affects of that bill on these people.
This got me thinking. So what about the next disaster to befall a region of the country.
Why do we have to have this bill in the first place. Can't the courts already make a valid determination of a persons ability to pay? Maybe there should be a test... you lost your home to a national disaster. You get debt relief. You bought several hundred pairs of shoes/tools/toys, went on vacations every year....you get to pay for your debts.
And the Republicans are not buying it, which I glad because that is another selling point for to vote for anyone not Republican the next chance you get. . . .
