Rita Hart, the Democratic candidate for IA-2 was down by 282 votes on Election Night. Today, the Jasper County Auditor and the Iowa Secretary of State held a news conference to announce that there was a reporting error in the Jasper County results. Apparently, this was the result of human error in transferring results from a single precinct to a spreadsheet. This has now flipped the lead in the race. Rita Hart now holds a 162-vote lead. Her opponent, Marianette Miller-Meeks, prematurely declared victory on Wednesday. Jasper County will be recounted, but both the SOS and the Auditor were adamant that the new count is correct. This is good news for the Democrats in Iowa because we very much want to hold onto Dave Loebsack’s seat. The Des Moines Register has the story as well.
