We are scarred from our electoral college loss in 2016. My guess is that like me, you remember your emotional state on election day, evening, night and the next morning and would prefer to not relive that roller coaster again. Me too. So, I understand why you are looking at polling with hope that is balanced with trepidation, skepticism. 2020 is not 2016.
In 2016, everyone knew that we were the odds-on favorite. This included not just the two teams competing but outside influences who stood to benefit from the outcome of our election. The opposition aided and abetted by an enemy knew that they couldn’t beat us at a fair game — their best bet was to discourage us from playing or outright prevent us from showing up. And boy did they do that well — their victory in 2016 wasn’t the result of some fancy footwork but some creative shenanigans. They stole our playbook, targeted our team with barrage of negativity amp’d up by a willing media that divided our own team and left us questioning our veteran and future half of gamer QB, pre-game distractions and fireworks (her emails), the age-old bribing the ref (Comey). We knew we were playing antiquated game rule that failed to reward the team that had the highest number of total points at the end. Our margin of points wasn’t enough for the win when the game clock wound down. 2020 is not 2016.
In 2020, the opposition is upto the same old tricks and then some. The opposition also happens to be in charge of their venue, their QB can likely infect everyone on the field with a dangerous disease, their entire team believes that their game results will only be valid if they win, they are preventing the side line refs from actually giving us the ball to play (postal delays), they are creating fake goals posts (fake ballot boxes in California), they are trying to change the court at the last minute so they can contest the election, they are ramped up undercover violence in the streets, they are reducing the size of the our goal post to a dime (1 ballot box in TX which affects urban populations), they are conspiring to kidnap friends and family members (Gov Whitmer), their QB wants our team arrested and jailed, and so much more. But 2020 is not 2016.
Unlike 2016, we know the only way the opposition wins is if we don’t show up on Game day. Unlike 2016, we expect the opposition to cheat and to try and distract us but we are focused on the prize. Unlike 2016, we know that the playing conditions are bad and might get worse but we are prepared. Unlike 2016, we all are united as a team and fighting like our lives and future depend on it.
It’s game time. Vote and GOTV.
