This morning on Morning Joe, Bob Schieffer provided another example of what's wrong with the media. As he did for the entire rest of his show, Joe Scarborough was bashing Obama, saying what a wimp Obama was as a candidate, and he asked Schieffer what Schieffer thought of the "lipstick on a pig" remark. Schieffer called it a mistake and then went on to say that looked at in a light most favorably to Obama, Obama was talking about McCain's policies, not Palin herself (this is not an exact quote but a pretty accurate paraphrase, I believe). I guess I should be used to it by now, but my jaw hit the floor. Looked at in a light most favorably to Obama? He was talking about McCain's policies; a review of the video shows it without doubt. When a journalist as prominent as Bob Schieffer cannot separate fact from fiction, truth from lies, it truly is a dark day for American journalism.
What would Murrow, Cronkite and Sevareid say?
I'll add that this comes after Schieffer conducted the softest, most enabling interview of McCain on Face the Nation this past weekend.
