For the last few months, my family has been feeding a stray cat that I saw scrounging in the garbage at the motel where we live.  When I met this cat, I could tell he was young, but he was also extremely thin.  Otherwise he seemed to be in good condition.  Please join me below the orange kitty toy.

The current state of the GOP

Makes me embarrassed to even admit that I'm right handed.

That is all.

Circumstances combined today that made it necessary for me to borrow some money from my mother.  This is something I hate to do.  My son and I arrived an met her in her in the spacious
backyard.  She was glad to give it, but needed to know what it was for.  I told her my husband, through no fault of his, did not get all his hours at work.  We were short.  We had to pay the motel or live
in our truck.  Times are hard.  This is the way it is.  We barely get buy, but we're happy.  We're patient.   Things are getting better.  I knew what was coming.  She started the smoking lecture.   I stopped her. I just couldn't bear to hear tell me that things just weren't bad enough for me. She needed to screw with my single non-life-sustaining pleasure.   Because I had made different choices than her. Some were not the best choices but mostly they were just different.  I was not the same as her, and she let me know that, somehow my difference violated her rights.   She wanted to make sure I was being punished enough for my difference.   Cigarettes seemed an excessive luxury for someone like me.  She certainly did not want to pay for something she disapproved of.  Her rights were in danger.   I tried to assure her that things were sufficiently bad for us, and that that was all our fault for being different.

I'm sure you already know this

by malevola

I'm pretty late to the party, but I think I've caught on.

Republicans win by using, against us, the fact that we care about people, even them.
Because, let's face it, it's pretty obvious that they don't really give a damn about fetus'.
And they can't really care who gets married.

But they know we do.  One of our greatest strengths, is a highly effective weapon for them.
While they are lying and cheating and stealing all we have, they toy with the things that they know we hold dear.  Because they know we must defend them, fight for them.  Because that is who we are.
And that makes it easier for them to ruin the things we are trying to accomplish for everyone, even them.  And because we are good people who want good things, we feel bad when we fail.

Even when the deck is stacked against us, and they tell us it's all our fault.

Women voting for Romney

by malevola

I'm not sure how coherent this is going to be, but I'm going to give it a shot.

Wow.  I read a lot about rape and abortion today.  A lot of good, albeit, triggery and rage producing,  stuff . I've been trying to process it all.

The thing that I simply cannot wrap my head around is the women who want to vote us all back to the stone age.

So I thought I'd try to go see what they were saying.

If you care to, please join me below.

A quick plea for assistance

by malevola

I was hoping that some of you may know, off the top of your head, some links to pass along to a Romney leaning,  undecided voter.
He is a 30ish black man with a daughter who lives in the same motel as I.  I spoke with him and he seems to be a rather low in formation voter simply looking for a change.  I convinced him to think about it and do some research on his own.  I would like to give him some non bias links to reasons he should vote for our  president.  All the links I know now are very left leaning.  I hate to ask but I simply don't have time today and as you know time is of the essence.
 thank you

My mother was a registered Democrat until she married my father in 1959.  She is a registered nurse and a practicing Roman Catholic.  My father was an engineer at Rockwell International.  They both had lucrative careers.  In 1968 my mother gave birth to a stillborn child.  It was a genetic problem that had a 25 percent chance of happening with every pregnancy.  My mother when on the pill until she had a hysterectomy many years later.  In 1972 they adopted me.  When I was 14 I was put on the pill for medical reasons.  My parents had no problems with birth control.  Please, if you care to, join me after the jump.

So glad I found Daily Kos

by malevola

I am 40 years old and this is the first time I will be voting.  After hanging around here for several weeks I am very embarrassed about this fact.  I registered for the first time in February only because I wanted to sign a petition to end the death penalty in CA.  Once I received my practice ballot, I decided I would research the issues in order to be an informed voter.  As I have always agreed with democrats over republicans, I found Daily Kos during my research.  Here I have discovered that democrats are not the lesser of two evils, but are a progressive force for good, much more closely akin to my own ideas and ideals than I had ever thought before.  I am grateful and humbled to be among  you all.  After being an outsider for all of my life, I have, through reading many diaries and comments, found a place that feels comfortable and right for me.  If you care to, please join me below the jump.
