Vloggers, Bloggers, and Livestreamers... What the hell?
2008's RNC had to have set some sort of record. According to one Minneapolis/St. Paul paper 72 journalists were arrested during the convention, the most noteworthy being Amy Goodman of Democracy Now. Why did this happen?
Some argue that the police and TPTB are becoming more fascist. I don't know if that is the case or not, but I do know that new technologies have to be giving the cops and their bosses headaches and hemorrhoids.
High quality cell phones can Livestream and upload pictures and videos real time. HD video cameras and digital cameras give any of us the power and the tools to become the media. That some states enacted laws to make it illegal to videotape police in action shows that those in charge simply don't like it and want to reign it in.
A new balance, one that deals with the new media reality will be established. It's in it's first shaky steps of coming to be now. But it's going to be a while.
