Betty Olson, a GOP state senator and friend of Senate candidate Mike Rounds, Senator John Thune and Representative Kristi Noem had this to say about the ISIS threat in the Rapid City Journal.

New front in the war on terrorism

by sddem

With the tragic events in Norway, so many were willing to place the blame on people of the Islamic faith and that something must be done in this war on terror.  They were wrong.

South Dakota war on abortion (and women)

by sddem

Many may have seen the fight that is currently going on to make South Dakota's league leading abortion laws even more restrictive with a 72 hour waiting period and as a special bonus the mandate to be counseled by religious anti-abortion advocates.

Well there's a new argument from a Republican legislator that I'm sure will make the state look really smart!

Rep. Brian Liss, R-Sioux Falls, who voted for the bill, said he thinks the measure would help ensure a thriving U.S. population.

“The United States is in a strategic competition with China. China is a country which has a military which teaches its soldiers to hate America, it’s a country that grows 10 percent a year economically, it has something like 1.4 billion people, and I think that we need to safeguard our economic growth and our population in order to compete with China,” Liss said, adding his argument for the bill is “completely secular.”

South Carolina gop must be proud

by sddem

Sanford and Wilson.  America is entertained, or shocked, or repulsed. You all must be proud, but rest assured I am sure you represent the best of American values and the Republican party in America.

Canada will come up - be ready

So the fear machine will ramp up again and they will be ranting on the evils of Canadian health care. Here's a great news piece that tears apart the myths that Republicans are using to scare Americans.

Bush ties automaker bailout to Columbia

by sddem

America first...not so much for Bush and the Republicans.

In their first meeting, Obama was pushing for support for American automakers and was met with a quid pro quo of carrying out Bush's support for a Columbian free trade agreement.

Caution...conservative heads nearby may explode.

Let's help Barack

by sddem

I remember when my grandmother was ill and then blessedly passed away.  While we worried and then mourned the strength and courage of a fine Norwegian immigrant, we were surrounded by the love of those she had touched, either in person or by those she had nurtured and molded.

Cindy, Welcome to the campaign

Good to see you involved, but are you sure you wanted to go there?

Just so you know, I'm sure this will get a lot of people thinking that maybe they can finally ask some questions of you now that you have attacked Barak Obama.

Open Letter to John McCain

by sddem

OK John,

I'm a little less than impressed with your campaign so far, but good help is hard to find.

How else do you explain Davis, Gramm and Palin the secessionist.  We can save that discussion for another day, like when Gramm can explain his role in this entire freaking melt down that has reduced the world's largest banks into a bunch of whiners.

Palin smacks down Carly

by sddem

So with those golden parachutes that Palin railed on today as the root of the problems on Wall Street, one has to wonder how she reconciles this belief with her chief defender, the former CEO of Hewlett Packard.

Last I checked, Fiorina oversaw the demise of over 20,000 American jobs, moved American productivity overseas, illegally wiretapped her bosses and delivered zero shareholder value...but she did get a $21,000,000 buyout for her stellar performance.

So when will a reporter ask these two titans of politics to reconcile this little inconvenient truth.

But in defense of Carly, the failed CEO, at least she didn't have the shareholders buy a tanning bed for her office.  A perfect model of fiscal responsibility.

Might make a funny SNL skit...but who'd play Carly?

Update:  Thanks for correcting me on Carly's role in the wiretapping activity.

Palin promotes earmarks for sex

by sddem

So Sarah is against earmarks.  Unless it's her infatuation with crabs having sex...now you're talking her language.  To the tune of $2,000,000, Sarah thought that was something American taxpayers should pay for.

From Josh Marsall,  Sarah chose crabs having sex .Sarah's hate of earmarks exposed  over other priorities.

I can hear her now..."If we wanted to watch crabs having sex we would have paid for it ourselves."

Have fun with this one.

As a side note:  So why are parents buying body armour for their sons and daughters in Iraq and Afghanistan?  Troops vs. Earmarks...how did Sarah choose? What a patriot!
