Just like everyone else on this site, I was deeply depressed and disgusted at the outcome of the presidential election. To make matters worse, I then learned that Hillary Clinton had won the popular vote. My depression quickly turned to outrage at our ridiculous and antiquated Electoral College system. No other country uses anything but popular vote to elect an official, and we don’t use it for any other elected office. This has got to be changed ASAP.
Then I saw this petition, and it gave me hope and a cause.

I’d always been taught that it would take an amendment to the Constitution to get rid of the Electoral College, and I’m very happy my teachers were wrong. THIS is something I can get behind. THIS is something I can work to achieve. My state has already signed on. Has yours? If not, write to your governor and state and federal representatives and get them moving! I’ve also written to the Democratic Governors Assoc and will keep writing to anyone else I can think of. Please, add suggestions in the comments.
Lawrence O’Donnell did an excellent historical piece on the Electoral College, but he didn’t mention the NPVIC as a way to get around it. I tried to find a way to contact him but failed. If anyone else knows how to contact him and other members of the media, please do so. I don’t tweet, which is a problem I don’t plan to remedy. www.msnbc.com/...I’ll try to embed his video here, but this is my first diary, so…… Nope, best I can do is a link. It’s worth watching to learn how the Electoral College quickly went awry WAY back when.
Thank you for reading.
