I am disappointed, as I am frequently, with the complete lack of knowledge about technology that is exhibited by the vast majority of those in our legislative branch of government. The lastest in this disappointment - The Induce Act, a silly bill which seems to have broad support, including our less than brave senate minority leader, Tom Daschle. This story on news.com is the latest attempt of Orrin Hatch to pretend as if this is good moral legislation.

Technology is our main currency in the world today. For the US economy to provide jobs, we need to encourage it, not enact silly "P2P networks should be illegal because they encourage children to steal" legislation. Other countries will enact no such laws and reap the benefits of progress. Additionally, the law's unintended effects will be so wide reaching it will create more problems than it attempts to solve. It is parents' responsibility to teach their children not to steal, not the federal government.
So, officially, I am now offering my services as a technology consultant to any legislator who feels they don't have a clear understanding of the issues in tech today. I will even do it on the cheap since I believe it to be public service. And I beg democratic lawmakers throughout the country to please hire someone, anyone with half a tech brain, to teach them. Please, I know many of you are older and not exactly tech savvy, but it's your responsibility. Please.
