This is short and just some ideas about how we as customers can help the Verizon strikers. I have worked in the labor movement for over 25 years and most of these are tactics we used at different times.

1) Call the company give your name, let them know you are a customer and express you displeasure.

2) Go to picket lines. If possible bring food, coffee or anything you can. More than anything this is a huge moral booster for the strikers.

3) If you are involved in any community/church groups see if you can get the group to adopt a striker. this means really working with one person that is in particular need. It might mean food, or clothes for kids, or tuition or mortgage. These are the things that will break a strike faster than anything else.

4) Find out if there is a local strike fund you can contribute to.

5) Do not use your Verizon service for anything that you have to pay additional fees for. NO movie rentals, pay per view or anything that they charge you extra for.

6) If your service goes down call and demand that you be credited for the loss.

George Soros has written an excellent article over at the Financial Timesthat does an excellent job of explaining the current crisis and how to best fix it.

The injection of government funds would be much less problematic if it were applied to the equity rather than the balance sheet. $700bn in preferred stock with warrants may be sufficient to make up the hole created by the bursting of the housing bubble. By contrast, the addition of $700bn on the demand side of an $11,000bn market may not be sufficient to arrest the decline of housing prices

In other words the Buffett deal. If you haven't read about that deal here it is in a nut shell

I was just listening to CNN and Joe Biden was on. He was talking the financial crisis and it felt like The Patriot act all over again. We have to give them the authority Crisis.. Crisis..Crisis. I couldn't believe my ears so I tried to find video but there wasn't any yet so I googled it and there was almost the identical quote I heard

Giving the Federal Reserve and Treasury Department temporary authority over the lurching economy could pull it from the brink, Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden declared Saturday from the campaign trail.
"The Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department need to stop the bleeding. If they are not able to stop a run on the market now, the economy could collapse," Biden said during a brief telephone interview

The time has come to start talking about ideology. It is not any individuals that have created the crisis we are now in. It is an ideology and that ideology is republicanism. We have to start talking about what republicans and democrats stand for and the economic crisis we are now in is a perfect starting point.

Republicans don't believe in regulation. Period. Not John McCain or George Bush but all republicans. That is the reason they are not democrats. It is their reason for existance.

John Mccain has always been a republican. therefore John McCain doesn't believe in regulation. We have got to define what it means to be a Republican and a Democrat. Not the individuals. Not the personalities.

According to yahoo news

By an 80-15 vote, the Senate turned back a last-ditch effort to kill the bill, setting up a vote to approve the measure on Thursday. The House passed the bill last week, and the Senate was expected to send it to President Bush for his signature.

This just broke qbout 10 minutes ago. Does this mean they voted for cloture and only 15 dems voted against it. The article isn't big on details of how or when this was done.

I know it's a short diary but I thought you all would want to know. If anyone has details about what happened please post them in the comments. i will try to update for as long as i can but i'm on east coast time.

Are We Up To The Challenge!

by Tanya

Steven Colbert has issued us a challenge. Help raise funds for school projects in Pa. in the name of Barack Obama. Some of the needs we will be fulfilling:

The majority of our special needs students perform Below Basic in the standardized test in the area of Reading. These students lack the vocabulary skills needed to succeed. They are performing on average of 1 to 3 years below their expected level in Reading. Our students simply need to improve their understanding of the English language

I just recieved the following email from Chris Dodd for president. He is asking for all of us to help stop the Telcom Amnesty.

The email lays out the entire process in very simple terms and makes it clear that there is much the Dems can do to stop this travisty. Dodd is taking the lead on this and we need to help go below the fold to find out how. We only need 10 votes on the Senate Judiciary Committee. If you think this action is important please consider recommending the diary. It only works if people know about it.

Did Hillary endorse Medicare For All?

by Tanya

I finally found the Healthcare question that Suzanne MALVEAUX was talking about on CNN yesterday. I thought she was talking about the HRC Forum (My appologies to LOGO for accusing them of editing their forum.) It seems there was another Forum She was at the National Association of Black Journalists Presidential Forum.

Let me be clear. This is not a pro or anti Hillary diary. This is a pro Universal Healthcare diary.

I firmly believe that Medicare for All is the best plan. I also believe it is the plan that the vast majority of Americans will support. We as Americans already know this plan, understand it, and like it.

Here are the Traitors/Dem Hall of SHAME

by Tanya

I haven't posted a diary in avery long time. I am posting this one as hopefully an action/strategy diary to deal with the traitors who just sold our country down the drain. I hope we can use this to devolope an action plan to make them pay dearly for their capitulation during the recess.

I think we need to come up with a unified plan that we can all get involved in and that will get some press. The Dems have to learn that there is also a price to pay for not standing up to the President and fucking the people who elected them.

The list is brought to you by the house clerk

Forget Foley al-Qaida is BACK

by Tanya

Surprise! Surprise!  al-Qaida has released a tape and this one has english subtitles. I just can't get over what can be accomplished from a cave. It is truly amamzing.

CAIRO, Egypt - Al-Qaida No. 2 Ayman al-Zawahri called President Bush a failure and a liar in the war on terror in a video statement released Friday, and he compared        Pope Benedict XVI to the 11th century pontiff who launched the First Crusade.

So he thinks we were lied into war

"Can't you be honest at least once in your life, and admit that you are a deceitful liar who intentionally deceived your nation when you drove them to war in        Iraq?" Osama bin Laden's deputy said,
