Guns... The Ugly Truth

Guns... There needs to be something done about this. The fact that an upset election in Virginia makes news anchors more speechless than a school shooting disgusts me. The fact is that the fear placed into peoples hearts by the National Rifle Association is invalid 99% of the time. I don't know what else to say... Something needs to be done, I have suggested things in mock legislation all of which have been shot down (oh the irony), but the thought processes of people needs to change. People need to be educated about gun violence and be exposed to the horrors, not simple told they need a gun to defend themselves. Newsflash, that's what the police are for. Get your heads in the right place and think about what is best for the country and not the best for your corporation and personal gains.

I know that I have come into contact with this multiple times, and looking at history, the whole ideology has too: Being the bigger person politically. Democrats have been bipartisan with Republicans when the GOP is in power, but when the reverse is true, nothing happens. I have had a similar personal experience, and now it is up to the youth of this country to decide what is to come next for our belief set. We can either continue with the path that we already have taken: being the better person no matter the circumstances. Or. We could decide to take a more proactive step, which will not go over well with everyone else, but I don't know about everyone else, but I am very tired of compromising for the opinions of others and not having my own respected.

This may just be immature of me, but why do people believe that government is the enemy. Seriously, it is the job of the government is to help people. The arguments that happen in Congress right now are over the roll government plays in the lives of citizens. Why not just end that argument right now, because the government is too involved to go back now. Libertarians believe that no regulation is the best regulation. I heavily disagree. People are not good by nature, especially being raised in this society where making money is the most important thing to them, not the general welfare of the peoples they are making their product for. For some reason though, they believe the opposite about government, which is made of people. Hm... If Congress could decide how it was going to regulate instead of if we are going to regulate, a lot more could get done in this country.

I live in a small rural town in northern Pennsylvania, and it seems like I am surrounded by people who believe they know what this nation needs based on... I don't even know. Now, I will be heading off to college come August, and I am very excited to get away from this environment where I am seen as a "radical". I have great conversations with a certain young man in my class who has the exact opposite viewpoint on everything political, but we cannot seem to see eye-to-eye on everything. Now, I have done some good things. In my AP American Government class, I was elected President based on an original campaign, and I was nominated to be Speaker of the House in various activities... I don't know what people fear anymore. People say that tyranny is about all the time, but is that evident here? no. People seem to be stuck in the late 1700s, I don't know about anyone else, but I am ready to move forward. Change is necessary
