As were millions of Americans and especially those here at DK, I was heartbroken to hear of the Senator's death this week. Being of Irish Catholic descent, also originally from Boston, made the Kennedys a very special part of my upbringing. The "dirty Irish" family that made good.
It has been extremely warm in the SF Bay Area so I was keeping a low profile (no A/C!) and I also had a good excuse for spending so much time inside watching the wake and funeral for the Senator. What an amazing life he led. The eulogies by his sons were incredibly moving.
Coincidentally yesterday I received a newsletter from a local nonprofit who helps farmworkers along the San Mateo County coast (Puente de la Costa Sur). Since my husband recently got a job I thought it was a good time to made a donation. When I filled out the form I made it in memory of the Senator. It's the least I could do for his life of good works. I hope others who are in a position to do so think about making a donation to a cause they believe in, in his memory. Thanks!
