So tonight after some comment back and forth with various users on DKos this evening, I’ve decided to post this. I keep seeing people asking why anyone supports Hillary Clinton, so here is why. As an added bonus, a few odds and ends about well.. posting here these days.
So why Hillary? This is why, and what I *believe* to be true. You may believe otherwise, and that’s your right. We will find out when the votes are cast, that’s kind of the point, right?
1) Congress. To me, the fact is if we are lucky, we retake the Senate. We won’t retake the House. Hopefully we cut the margin down some, but due to the much discussed and pointed out Gerrymandering issue, it’s a damn hard road to slog.
I want Hillary because I believe she has the best chance of ramming things through. Yes of course the Republicans hate her. They don’t much care for Bernie either. EITHER candidate is going to have to fight like a mad dog to get anything through the House. I just believe that Hillary can do that better.
2) Proposals. Read this carefully. I like most of what Bernie suggests.I do. Really. That being said, I don’t really see a lot of “How” on his proposals.
I want Hillary because I find her positions to be better fleshed out. I find her to be detail oriented and fairly specific.
3) Electability/Appearance. Oh boy. I can hear the knives being drawn as I write this. But, I believe appearances matter. It matters a whole hell of a lot still, even in this Internet age as the TV age (where it mattered a whole hell of a lot more.)
When *I* look at the two main candidates for the Democratic nomination, I see this.
1) A tough strong candidate.
2) An angry strong candidate.
It’s the angry part that bothers me. Trump I believe will be the Republican nominee. (Which I find both horrible and really really amusing, since he embodies all the drivel and slop that the establishment Republican party has been feeding their fringe, and now it’s given birth to something that they can’t control.)
Trump already does angry. Angry at all the wrong things, but angry.
I don’t believe that Sanders Angry is a good thing if he’s going up against Trump.
Those are the main reasons I support Hillary. I’m not a policy wonk. I don’t even for a second believe that I’ll agree with everything she will do if she’s elected. But I want a tough, strong nominee that I believe can get things done in ways I don’t believe the other can.
BONUS:
Since all of these have been thrown at me lately…
I’m not sexiest, misogynistic or think of women as weaker. I don’t pay a damn bit of attention to whatever sex you are when I’m answering a post. It’s meaningless. Most people on the site don’t care either.
I’ve been here 10 years. Big deal. I’ve got a low post count. Big deal. It doesn’t matter. It’s meaningless. I don’t care if you’ve been here forever, or if you’ve just joined. I don’t even look at that, is that really how people judge posters on here now?
Posts using the words or phrases: Oligarchy, corporate shill, or abound with conspiracy theories, are going to pick a fight, and are designed to. I’ve decided as I write this to stay out of them from now on, it’s pointless to get sucked into that mess.
For the record on the following people and things:
1) I think DWS is a highly ineffective DNC chair. I do NOT believe the CT about her trying to ‘steal’ the nomination for Clinton. I DO believe she’s just bad at her job, and should be replaced. I miss Howard Dean in that role, very very much.
2) Rahm Emanuel is a sad disgusting man. I don’t like him, nor trust him. This does not mean anything to me in terms of Clinton.
Pet Theory:
I love campaign songs. A good campaign song I believe can set the tone in a good way like BIll Clinton’s use of Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t stop thinking about Tomorrow” or in the bad way, when Howard Dean started using the absolutely insipid “We Can”. When he had an AWESOME one in the “A little Less Conversation” song he was using before.
So any guesses on campaign songs? :)
