A delivery man from Macy's named Juan came to deliver our new sofa today. Our old sofa had collapsed in one section, and after much back and forth with Macy's they agreed to replace it. Juan was young, friendly and polite. His English was excellent, which was good because as far as I could tell his partner (whose name I didn't get) spoke none, and my Spanish is serviceable at best. Juan spoke for both of them.
As Juan and his partner tipped the old sofa on its side to fit it through our door, a tinkling-like sound eminated from within. Everytime they moved it, there was a sound like screws or bolts cascading down through the couch. "What is that?" I wondered aloud, and my 5-year-old daughter giggled and said, "That's all the money I dropped in there!" She explained that whenever she found quarters, dimes or other change around the house, she dropped them in a little slot she had discovered in the sofa for safekeeping.
That was funny. But what Juan did next was the interesting part.
