Metro Atlanta:
DeKalb County gave Gore a 96,000 margin in 2000.
Fulton County gave Gore a 47,000 margin in 2000.
Bush won Georgia by 303,500 in 2000.
In the last year there have been over 100,000 new registered voters in these two counties with totals for 2004 are not available due to the large number of new registrations still being processed.
Statewide, 371,400 new voters have registered since September 2003.
I'm seeing KE04 yard signs 10:1 over BC04 in large parts of the metro areas--including Buckhead (Atlanta's wealthiest neighborhood).
There hasn't been one TV ad for KE04. Kerry won the primary and Edwards was second. The Senate race is likely to be easily won by the GOP so not as much a energizing force to get to the polls for the republicans. No governor's race. There is a gay marriage amendment, but if it's getting a lot of play it's not on local news.
Georgia is not in play but there's a lot of activity for KE04 w/o any visits from the campaign. The viewing party for the first debate was overflow crowds out into the parking lot at historic Manual's Tavern. There's a lot of anger at Zell (more like profound disappointment).
Could be that BC supporters are just laying low?
W is still likely to win, but it's going to be a lot closer than they think.
If only KE04 had made a little media buy here and there...
