The New York Times story this morning about "Republican operative" Steve May's recruiting of homeless people to run as Green Party write-in candidates to siphon off votes from Democrats in Arizona legislative races failed to mention May's previous status as the first openly gay Republican state legislator in the country, a former Army lieutenant who was caught up in the middle of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," back at the turn of the millennium.
