Interesting micro-targeting by Bush Inc.

So a while back I signed up as a Bush "team leader" under the false persona of a conservative catholic senior citizen.

Today I received a stupid message from the campaign about gay marriage that I will include at the bottom of this post. The graphic on the top of the email caught me for some reason. So I looked at the source. The image is entitled cathleader.gif
Here it is

cathleader? Could that mean Catholic leader? Are they so on top of things that their outgoing messages even have demographically relevant graphics?

I played around with the wording and after 4-5 different attempts discovered that changing "cath" with "conserv" as in conservative brought forth a different graphic.

I wonder how many targeted demographic groups have their own specialized graphic header on outgoing Bush Inc. messages.
I wonder if the Kerry campaign is this sophisticated.

Intellectually I understand all of the "anyone-but-Bush" reasoning and believe quite strongly in it. If Gephardt is chosen as VP though, I am quite worried that emotions will overcome me in the voting both and I'll select Nader (I live in Ohio BTW). I am also fearful of how many similar people will experience the same phenomenon.

The thought of a Kerry/Gephardt ticket viscerally sickens me. The thought of voting FOR that which I hate about the Democratic Party leaves me depressed. The thought of voting for the man who participated in that despicable Rose Garden ceremony leaves me feeling nauseous.
I hate conspiracy theorists, but I find myself wondering if there wasn't some tit-for-tat Dean destruction agreement between Kerry and Gephardt during the primaries. I can't think of any other reason why Kerry would select someone so thoroughly despised by the base.

Hopefully Rose-Garden-Gep isn't selected and I have nothing to worry about. If he is, there is a very real chance I won't have the fortitude to vote for them.

In the past couple of days there have been several diary posts offering gmail invites in exchange for registering someone to vote. I wanted in on the offer but I didn't want to ask for one until I knew that I could come through on the vote registration condition. Pennsylvania political push for Bush could cost churches tax break

President Bush's re-election campaign is trying to recruit supporters from 1,600 religious congregations in Pennsylvania -- a political push that critics said Wednesday could cost churches their tax breaks.

The director of a nonpartisan watchdog group called the campaign's church appeal "a breathtakingly sad example of mixing religion and politics."

"I have never in my life seen such a direct campaign to politicize American churches -- from any political party or from any candidate for public office," said Rev. Barry W. Lynn of the Americans United for Separation of Church and State. "By enrolling churches in an election scheme like this, I think the Bush-Cheney campaign is actually endangering those churches' tax exemptions without even the courtesy of telling them that they run a risk."

I received the following spam from Bush Inc. last night. The first thing that popped into my head was... "Is this legal?" I wonder what they mean by "general information". The second thing that popped into my head was... "How dare they infect places of worship with their contagious and hideous evil-doing." Has anyone else received similar communications from Bush Inc?

Lead your Congregation for President Bush

The Bush-Cheney '04 national headquarters in Virginia has asked us to identify 1600 "Friendly Congregations" in Pennsylvania where voters friendly to President Bush might gather on a regular basis. In each of these friendly congregations, we would like to identify a volunteer coordinator who can help distribute general information to other supporters.

I'd like to ask if you would like to serve as a coordinator in your place of worship. We plan to undertake activities such as distributing general information/updates or voter registration materials in a place accessible to the congregation.
