I'm writing this because frankly I'm getting sick and tired of all the fucking pissing and moaning about deficit cuts we have no goddamn clue about. We read an article in a paper, we over analyze some comment by some low level Obama administration official and we go apoplectic.
We know that there is some mix of cuts and tax increases. We heard that mix is rumored to be about 85%-15% cuts to increases but we don't know for certain.
We don't know what's being cut other than that a senator mentioned that ther are more Medicare cuts but we don't even know what Medicare cuts he's referring to which will be cut even more. Is it the cuts in the ACA or Obama care which were actually cost savings to a privately run Medicare Advantage program and didn't affect benefits at all? Is it some accounting thing that will appear as cuts? We don't have a clue. If we go by the President's words this week it will be more of those types of cost savings and won't reduce benefits. His words not mine. Look it up.
Will we be cutting Social Security? A large number of Dem politicians not named Joe Lieberman have said that's a non starter, INCLUDING the Senate majority leader.
How about other programs that we all cherish? Well we don't really know.
How about the Pentagon? As I mentioned somewhere else a modest 10% cut in the Pentagon budget would equal a trillion $ in savings over 10 years and would not compromise our defense one bit. With the winding down of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan a 10% reduction is more than achievable. Hell maybe even a 20% cut is achievable. That would be 2 trillion $ and we wouldn't have to touch anything else. The president has already cut the Pentagon budget and this week he specifically stated he would look for more savings on top of those. Again, his words not mine.
We know that the GOP refuses to allow taxes to go up even though every economist and every former GOP politician tells them they have to. We know the Dems have requested some tax increases which are not the Bush tax cuts. We ASSUME that by not including the Bush tax cuts that means that in less than 2 years they will be continued indefinitely even though Obama will likely be re-elected by then and will have no real motivation to extend them. We assume this because they caved in December, they supposedly caved this time, even though it's not a cave since they're going to expire in a year and a half anyway and they have caved on other things in the past. Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice, well... you're not gonna fool me again. At least that's what some will say.
Of course we don't know if any of this is included and if we're getting fooled at all. We assume we are. We know the republicans are a bunch of fucking jackasses and we know the Democrats are a bunch of spineless treasonous pieces of shit who we assume will wilt at the first sign of attacks by the republicans.
We also assume that the president will preemptively cave to the GOP in some fucked up misguided show of bipartisanship.
Then there are some of us who just assume that both sides are firmly entrenched up Jaime Dimon's or Lloyd Blankfein's pasty white asses and will do whatever their corporate overlords demand of them regardless of what we want.
While I agree with all to one extent or another I am getting pretty tired of the preemptive whining that is going on. We all assume we're fucked, we whine, wail, rip our hair out and threaten to vote third party. So guess what, when we do get fucked we can whine, wail, rip our hair out and threaten to vote third party again.
Is it any wonder why our Democratic representatives cave so much and show not the least bit of intestinal fortitude when their constituents are all resigned to defeat at the hands of the big bad republican beasts?
I'm sick of the whiny bullshit. It's high time we grow a spine. Here's my suggestion below.
