OK, folks.
As our saviour Dean prophesied, the Republicans are going to make "Immigration" their issue for the 2006 and 2008 election cycles. They've shown their hand, and it isn't pretty.
I suspect that they chose this issue for a number of reasons. It appeals to their racist base. It appeals to their 'fear" base. It's a cross-over issue, as it appeals to people who feel wages are brought down by immigration. It can be played to appeal to national security fanatics and voters. It is NOT an issue that inspires a lot of people on the left. So, here they have it. A Hot Button issue, with racial overtones, that doesn't inspire the political left, and indeed, draws some support from it.
