This is the final installment of a series of three diaries about the West Coast port shut down. Part one is Occupy Seattle - Why We Shut Down The Port Part I (highlighting the Longview ILWU's struggle with EGT), part two is Occupy Seattle - Why We Shut Down The Port Part II (highlighting the SSA/Goldman Sachs connection as it relates to the Port of LA/Long Beach). Today I am writing about police oppression as it relates to the cities participating in tomorrow's port shut down.

Authors note: Once I started writing this I realized I had a lot of information to relay about the three reasons we are supporting the West Coast port shutdown. Today's diary is about EGT and union busting in Longview. I will write two more - one about SSA and the truckers in LA and one about the police brutality that has been used against those of us who participate in the occupy movements

In response to a call out from Occupy Oakland to shut down all West Coast ports on December 12th, Occupy Seattle has begun a massive organizing campaign to participate in what will be a historic day of nationwide direct action.

I came across an interesting article in The Stranger today, and it made me realize something (a duh light bulb moment if there ever was one). As enraging as it is when the police indiscriminately pepper spray us, they may not be acting like jerks. Maybe they are just lazy.

I had reservations about sharing the words of a third party in their entirety on this site, but after reading this email (that went out to a list serv) and because he urged us to "please share" I decided to do it. For any of you who have following our occupy, it is a pretty well known fact that we have been battling both the SPD and each other since we went from a daily protest to an occupation a month ago. The decision to occupy at Westlake (a city park directly across from the shopping hub of downtown Seattle) has been a thorn in the side of the mayor and the police. There have been over 50 arrests (most of which I watched) and a complete overreach by the SPD when it comes to police presence. I usually counted 60-100 police at any given time, along with a mobile precinct unit that was parked at the end of the park since about a week in. We could be in the park after it closed, but absolutely no tents. No tarps. People were arrested for sitting in blankets because that is "camping". Also, no sleeping. Police would go around and kick and poke anyone who fell asleep due to exhaustion. We knew something had to change. And today it will.

As many of you know, Jesse (MinistryofTruth) was here this past Sunday evening and Monday. As someone who has followed his writing for a long time, I have witnessed his evolution and watched with interest his rise to internet fame and media darling of Occupy Wall Street. Having never met him I didn't have any real expectations about his visit. I wanted to share some of my observations here.

We are inviting women from diverse cultures, races, sexual orientation, and all who self-identify as women, regardless of birth gender, to share their personal stories about their encounters with sexism, racism, classism or similar forms of discrimination as they relate to the larger issues of women's oppression.If through dialogue, we find ways to work together to move the lives of women forward, great. If not, we can at least listen to each other and become more sensitive to each others' goals. These diaries are intended to be dialogues among women from their own perspectives. We ask men readers to respect this.

Note from the editors:

UnaSpenser and I have been very involved in the #occupy movements in our own cities. Obviously this has caused a huge disruption not only in our daily lives, but also in our ability to get updated diaries posted for this series. Conditions on the ground have changed tremendously for both of us. We are working behind the scenes to come up with a solution that we can continue publishing this series but also take part in what is a monumental shift in our own political landscape. I personally would like to thank all of the brave and wonderful people in Middle East and North Africa for inspiring us with their bravery and determination. You have helped us find our own voice. Now we have to do the work.

Today will be a day of just highlights for now, but I promise everyone that we are trying to get us back to our regularly scheduled program soon. Namaste.

Two updates regarding the alleged "conflicts" with the occupation in the park below:

This is unfolding right now.

After going back and forth with the police and mayor's office, it seems the police are getting ready to remove the occupation camp at Westlake right now because Target has a permit to use the area to launch their new "Fresh Has Arrived" campaign.

#Occupyseattle began a little over a week ago but really hit full speed last Sunday during a protest outside of President Obama's event in downtown Seattle during the early afternoon. Since then there have been small gatherings in front of the federal building each week night, and a general assembly late Friday night.

But yesterday was the big day. The media finally took notice.

Starting around 11:00 there was a large gathering in front of Westlake Mall in downtown Seattle (a major shopping destination and essentially the central hub for foot traffic).
