The 90 universities listed below, plus others, will help republicans obstruct president Obama as he tries to fill the supreme court vacancy.
Limbaugh declared that no Obama SCOTUS appointee will be approved.
Republican talk radio stations have been defining who is and isn’t acceptable in SCOTUS candidates for 25 years. If Republicans don’t entirely obstruct the appointment they will force compromise (already are) on selection of the ultimate candidate. As soon as an appointment is made they will use those 1200 radio stations to attack that candidate using distortions and lies. Knowing what Republicans will put them through, much of it from the talk radio gods, will cause good SCOTUS candidates to decline.
Limbaugh and his Sandra Fluke-like attacks on Anita Hill are why we have Clarence Thomas on the supreme court. David Brock only supplied some ammunition.
At bottom of the diary is a list of about 90 universities listed by state, which support over 260 Rush Limbaugh stations. They have no excuse to continue to broadcast sports on those totally partisan Limbaugh stations. Alternatives are available.
260 stations x 15 hrs/day avg RW talk x 5 days/week x 52 wks = 1,014,000 hrs of pro Republican advertising every year. At $1000/hour that’s 1BIL$ in free yearly republican advertising/infomercials endorsed by those universities.
1200 radio stations are worth more than 4BIL$ in free Republican advertising and infomercials.
That is why Trump and Cruz are beating the GOP establishment and all its PAC money.
All 600 Limbaugh stations and probably all 1200 or more Republican radio stations will be making sure that’s what the base will be demanding no SCOTUS appointment from their Republican senators.
The Republican talk radio monopoly may be experiencing a little disunity as they go in the GOP primaries but all of the right wing blowhards always unite on issues like this. It is what they do.
Those stations will help ensure that the teabag base does not allow cooperation from any Republican senator.
Those publicly funded schools should be protested and petitioned until their support for republican radio ends. They have no excuse to continue their support for undeniably partisan, anti-public education, pro-global warming, bigoted programming.
Below are some excerpts from a previous diary on the subject:
Why would any university continue to endorse Limbaugh, who referred to Planned Parenthood as “Planned Butcher-hood”, where babies are ‘chopped up’ into ‘baby parts’?
Why do these universities continue to help the NRA beat back calls for sensible gun control even after 20 children were slaughtered at Sandy Hook/Newtown?
Why would any university lend its good name to radio stations that cover their communities in racism, bigotry, and hate?
Why do these universities undermine their own scholars and scientists and threaten the future of their students and the planet by helping the fossil fuel industry deny global warming? This issue alone makes these relationships inexcusable.
Why do they continue to help elect Republicans who defund education at the state and national levels and fight efforts to reduce student debt?
Why can’t those 90 universities do a better job honoring the goals and principles they express in their mission statements?
It can’t be the money.
No matter what the endorsement of Limbaugh and RW radio brings in, how can it balance the effect of years of education budget cuts due to Republican policies sold by Republican radio?
Surely donors can be found to make up the minor loss from sports licensing from those stations.
It can’t be the good PR and university ‘branding’.
How can it be good for a university’s image to let those radio stations use their logos, mascots, and community standing to incite violence with lies and hate, and use and excuse racism, sexism, global warming denial, character assassination (swiftboating), and lying to further Republican goals?
Those universities may as well be renting their logos to the KKK to put on their robes. There is no difference.
It can’t be because they care for their students and faculty and employees.
Republican talk radio hosts are always on the wrong side of issues effecting students, faculty, and employees unless you believe religion and free markets will solve all our problems. For 25 years those stations have worked primarily for the corporate think tanks, ALEC, and establishment Republican goals.
They have a huge say locally and nationally on peace and war, environmental issues, wages and worker rights, public education privatization and voucher scams, student debt relief, electronic voting machines and voter suppression legislation, and net neutrality. They regularly attack teachers and professors, intellectualism in general, and science.
Student activists all over the country are being undercut by their own universities.
How many student activists and voters can a single radio host reaching tens of thousands, even millions, cancel out?
Choosing to broadcast sports on a Republican talk radio station can’t be excused as an objective, apolitical, market-based choice.
The excuse that these relationships are apolitical is ridiculous in many ways including the fact that local talkers on these stations routinely weigh in on the elections of university regents and who is and isn’t acceptable to be chosen for university chancellors and presidents.
All those stations will attack the Democratic presidential candidate.
If a few of the national blowhards can’t bring themselves to actually endorse the Republican candidate, which would be the case if the GOP shoehorns Bush in, they will be united in their swiftboating of the Democratic candidate.
Most of these stations have spent 25 years attacking Hillary Clinton.
If Bernie is the candidate they will unify to attack Bernie Sanders. Here is a taste from Michael Savage getting warmed up last September:
Bernie, you student-molesting anti-christian commie retrovirus, don't jog in Marcy Park. That and worse is what those universities will be endorsing.
Democratic supermajorities are possible if democrats do something different and stop giving Republican radio a free speech free ride.
Stop these 90 universities from helping GOP obstruct/compromise SCOTUS choice. One university declaring it will not renew it’s support of Republican hate radio will shame others into doing the same. Any community discussion of university support for Republican radio will result in loss of advertisers. Stoprush and Flushrush proved that publicly exposing an association with Limbaugh is poisonous.
It is possible that many of these stations will have to change programming to maintain their university sports broadcasting rights. The GOP will begin to lose their most important national and local political/media weapon.
These universities have NO EXCUSE!
