The FBI apparently showed up at Rackspace's US offices (an extremely popular webhosting company) and served them with a supoena to force them to hand over some hard drives from their UK server site that hosted several Indymedia sites. There's something to be said about the US Government demanding physical property from UK businesses, but that's another story. The warrants were immediate, they were not given time to back up the data or warn their customer, or give their customer a chance to demand why the information was being seized. As of this writing, Indymedia still has no idea why their data was siezed from them -- Rackspace may (probably) has a gag order forcing them to not give any information to Indymedia.
Indymedia, you might remember, was the group that was tracking the majority of the illegal tactics used in NYC by the police against the Anti-RNC protesters. They also posted photos and personal information of RNC delegates (which is public information, available with a simple google search) and refused to take it down when they were asked to / threatened with harm if they didn't.
They're apparently a digital network for independant media to post news. Something in between a blog and a news network. I don't know too much about them, but it's not the first time this year that the FBI has attacked indy media in the US. From the main indymedia page:
"In August the Secret Service used a subpoena in an attempt to disrupt the NYC IMC before the RNC by trying to get IP logs from an ISP in the US and the Netherlands, last month the FCC shut down comunity radio stations around the US, and now the FBI is shutting down IMCs around the world."
