First, let me say I never really liked the DLC and how they tend to be the folks who form that infamous "circular firing squad" that pudits slap Democrats with all the time.
Most (but certainly not all) of the base and activists don't like the DLC and what they're currently doing. Howard Dean, the anti-DLC candidate during 2004, became chairman early last year. State parties and local parties tend to be moving toward the grassroots-based party Dean has been advocating. So why is the DLC still very alive and kicking?
I can sum it all up in one word: policy.
