Of my two kitties, Tiger — despite being the boy, and the biggest (by a LOT) versus his sister Smokey — has always been the mushiest (is that a word?), quietest, and meekest as well. He loves to be petted, especially around the cheeks & ears, and absolutely swoons over under-the-chin scritches. One thing Tiger has never been — again, in stark contrast to his sister — is demanding. Until lately anyway…
For the last week or so, Tiger has discovered a way to not just grab my attention, but ensure I cannot ignore him. Since I live in a very small space, the table with my computer is right next to my bed. Tiger has taken to sitting on the edge of the bed and staring longingly at me (sort of the look in the above picture). If a few minutes go by without my appearing to notice his imploring looks, he starts reaching out with a paw to grab my arm (which is usually controlling the mouse).
The first time he did it, I was surprised, and gave him a few head drubbings and chin scritches in response. Well, apparently I “taught” him that this is the way to get attention, because ever since then he’s taken to doing this at least 2-3 times a day. He never gets tired of the attention either — I can have spent ten minutes giving him lovins, and the minute I try to go back to moving the mouse, here comes that paw once again!!
Needless to say, it’s absolutely adorable. If I had a decent camera, I’d get it on video, because it’s just too darn cute, and absolutely melts my heart every time.
So — how do your pets let you know that they want your attention and/or affection? Have their methods changed over time (Tiger is 9, and just started doing this now)? How long does it take before they let you get back to your other endeavors (if at all)?
Oh, I found this video on YouTube and thought all the pootie-lovers here would enjoy it. Oh, and Mopsy, if you’re still awake, pay attention around the 4:28 mark… it should remind you of someone!!
Oops — I almost forgot to post “Da Rulez”:
