Diana Engstrom's husband Todd was killed in action in Iraq. Now she will be deported back to Kosovo unless the private relief bill passes. These things almost never pass, but who is more deserving than a war widow?
Call your senator and ask him/her to supportS. 1233, Diana Engstrom's private relief bill sponsored by Barack Obama and Dick Durbin. Thank you.
Short roundup today, I had a computer fart.
Lisl Auman was denied bail yesterday. Auman was granted a retrial of her murder conviction of Denver Cop Bruce Vanderjagt. She's a cause celebre by many on the left in Colorado because she was in custody when a co-conspirator shot Vanderjagt.
A major landslide has hit US 6 in Clear Creek Canyon.
Prayers go up for Marine Lance Cpl. Chad Maynard, of Montrose, and his family and friends. I hate George W. Bush.
Funerals for soldiers in Colorado are starting to turn into events, over 300 showed up in Montrose yesterday for Maynard's funeral.
Rep. Greg Brophy (R-Wray) was named to replace Sen. Mark Hillman, who was named interim State Treasurer. Brophy is an arch-conservative.
An editorial from the Aspen Times calling on Colleen Truden to resign. Consider this an editorial calling on Bill Owens, George Bush and Dick Cheney to resign, which is just as likely to be successful (I'll take my chances with Denny Hastert, thanks.) One of Truden's former deputies has said he won't run in the recall election.
Bush is puttin' the old backdoor on Katherine Harris, and to be honest it couldn't happen to a nicer gal, but really, isn't this about the dirtiest political move you've ever heard of?
According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, George and Jeb are trying to get Alan Bense to run against Harris in the GOP Primary for US Senate. Read More
The Daily Kos said yesterday that one Western Congresswoman had a favorability rating in the low thirties. Well, today there is rumbling that Marilyn Mad Cow Musgrave will have a Republican Primary opponent, former State Representative Bill Kauffman (R-Ft. Collins). So I wonder who that congresswoman with the low favorability was. Will DeLay bail out on his main Colorado squeeze (at least with Bob Beauprez losing for governor, Musgrave has to be considered DeLay's Colorado mainstay)? Or will he ride that Mad Cow for the full 7 seconds?
Meanwhile, one of Musgrave's pork projects, a new CDC building, has gone horribly wrong.
Oh, he may not know it yet, but he's finished in Colorado politics.
Beauprez voted against the amendment to protect library and bookstore records from searches under the unPATRIOT Act. (Thanks to TalkLeft for the pointer). Tancredo and Hefley voted with him, but even Mad Cow Musgrave joined Colorado Democrats in supporting the amendment. Read More
The plot thickens...The Jefferson County home of a central figure in the Ohio coin scandal was burglarized over the weekend. Michael Storeim, who is a key figure in a scandal in Ohio over investing taxpayer dollars in a risky coin speculation scheme, had $500,000 worth of "stuff" stolen from his Evergreen home.
Collen Truden has managed to run through 74% of her annual budget so far, and will go before the Garfield County Commissioners this afternoon to get more money. Truden, who ran through more than ten large remodeling her office and another $35K on computer equipment and maintenance that wasn't needed, including a $6,000 personal services contract with her husband, is the subject of a recall.
The report of the election commission examining problems in counting Boulder County's vote in last year's November election says that a number of factors came into play and it was not any one person's fault. The full report is available here (PDF).
Update: US Secretary of the Interior Gail Norton may be in a load of trouble over a shady South Florida oil deal. Norton would prefer to be imprisoned at the Federal Joint in Canon City.
Colleen Truden is going to fight her recall tooth, nail and bad hair.
Two former deputies who quit are said to be considering running against Truden: Jeff Cheney and Martin Beeson, both Republicans.
Here's why Rod Blagojevich doesn't deserve a second term: He promised reform and not only did not deliver, but he perfected the corrupt practices of the previous Illinois regime. He is the embodiment of pinstripe patronage and legal corruption in the system and isn't fit to lead the Democratic Party in 2006.
