Right now there are a lot of Republicans who feel the way many Democrats did in the 1980's. They are saying, I am not leaving the Republican Party, The Republican party is leaving me. You know who they are. They are your family members who have been softening on gay marriage, they are your colleagues who maybe voted for Romney but did not hate Obama, they are the fellow parents at your kids school who always thought the Democratic party was too liberal but now they can't see themselves with the Tea Party.
They are at a loss. They are sickened by Ted Cruz but they don't know where else to go.
They are tough on defense but liberal on social policy. They are the live and let live crowd who don't want too much government in their lives. They support personal responsibilty and generally are opposed to government unions. They don't support high taxes but they do support Social Security and Medicare.
The earth is moving. This is the time for Democrats to reach out to those sorts of Republicans and tell them we have room for pro-choice Democrats. We have room for socially responsible business. We have room for people who want to responsibly curb entitlement spending in exchange for higher taxes on those who are gaining the most.
Remind them that Obama has doubled the stock market, cut the budget deficit, ended the war in Iraq, continued the W Bush tax cuts during his first term, continued and expanded the W Bush drone policy, passed and is implementing a historic health care plan that is to the right of Richard Nixon's health care plan, kept our nation safe from a terrorist attack and was a dedicated father and husband.
I understand that many of the facts might not sit well with the most liberal of Democrats but we want Nancy Pelosi to speaker of the house I believe this is the Democrats chance to win the house.
We will never win Tea Party votes but we can win over the few remaining moderate Republicans.
Remind your reasonable Republicans contacts that they are not leaving the GOP, the GOP is leaving them.
