I live in a town of rich people. There's several very wealthy families here that make over a million a year. On top of that, all of whom I know are republican. Let's listen to some of their talking points.
"We had to go to Iraq to free their people!"
Hrmm. Funny, that. Because when Iraq was gassing the Kurds oh-so-long-ago, the United States didn't do a thing. Not only did they not do anything to stop it, they were actually giving Saddam critical intelligence and logistical assistance. Saying that we're in Iraq to free the people is rediculous. No country ever goes to war to free a people. If we did, we'd have to go to countries like North Korea, Cuba, Uzbekistan, Chechnya, Syria, Rwanda, Congo, Guinea... the list just keeps going. We only go to a full-scale war like this when there's a threat. There isn't, and the war may have even created one.
I got this one a few days ago: "See the terrorist attack in Russia? That's because countries like Russia and England didn't do anything about the terrorist threat, like we did. If Bush hadn't done anything, that could've been us."
More after the turn...
