Before we get to what I believe in these are the things that shaped my beliefs. I spent 28 years in the AF. I have 3 brothers and 5 sisters but my family is not Catholic or Mormon. When asked how many guns do I own? I reply, "a few, not as many as I would like". I would rather read a book than watch TV. I was a Boy Scout but think that Scouting has lost its way. I plan on graduating college next spring with an IS&T degree. I put up signs for McGovern for President. My first vote was for Jimmy Carter for President. I have never voted for a Republican for President.
It was the summer of 1972, I was 14, and had made up my mind that I wanted to go to college. I might be able to get a scholarship in the future but for now I could go to work and save money for college. My hometown didn’t have any fast food joints (1976 the first one) so I went to work washing dishes at a local diner. I’m pretty sure that I was only getting paid $2 an hour with a free meal. The morning cook was the guy who was really running the place and the owner was a wee woman from Texas called Willie. Follow me after the fold to find out what this has to do with the "they must be out of their minds party."
Operations Allied Force was in full swing and the Serbian president was digging in his heels about ethnic cleansing in Kosovo. Operation Noble Anvil was planned and implemented with haste. Two more Air Control Squadrons (ACS)would be deployed one to Hungary and one to Romania. Initially I was slated to go with another unit to Hungary but the Romanian parliament in a brave gesture agreed to allow the Air Force to deploy an ACS to Craiova Romania. The kicker, the unit normally armed to defend itself against a level 1 threat would only be allowed to bring three 9mn pistols to protect classified. After the break you’ll meet a character from M*A*S*H, gypsies, and how the unit single handily saved an American institution.
Two reasons why I voted for Obama in Utah's early voting. Even though it’s Utah and Obama has as much chance winning Utah as I have to win the lottery. Here’s the first reason why. It was the day before Easter in 2004. I got a call at home from the Director of Operations of a unit deployed to Baghdad. There had been a mortar attack and one Airman had been killed and one Airman had been medivaced to Landsthul Medical center. I was stationed at Ramstien and lived about 6 miles from the hospital. My wife and I rushed over to the hospital to make sure the injured Airman had everything he needed. More after the fold.
