How many unborn babies have you intentionally killed, Mr Bush? How many? Hundreds? Thousands? One?
This diary is painful to write, and has been festering in my mind for weeks. It comes from an unfinished conversation my wife and I had with old friends, and probably friends no more, in a recent trip back East. Brenda and Frank are died-in-the-wool, Catholic Republicans, and Brenda, a nurse, is active in the pro-life movement (her words). This means she really only has two issues: abortion and stem cells. They are both completely pro-Bush. Frank, like me, takes a more structural view of politics. The wives are more passionate - my wife is a strong, data-driven anti-Zionist. We disagreed on a lot of issues, but at one point Brenda did try to mend fences by saying, probably like us, she was against capital punishment and war.
I just imploded at that point. I could say no more. I'll say more now...
