Whether or not one "hates" a lazy, mean-spirited frat boy who, through no merit of his own, becomes the most powerful person on the planet is besides the point.
The issue should be: what is happening to our democracy? When dissent is stifled with fear and smear, when the 4th estate is dying a sad, pathetic death (preening in a hand-mirror while the house burns down), when the president treats congressional members of his own party like beggars in the street, when our very constitutional safeguards, so carefully balanced by the Founding Fathers, are out of whack, where will we go from here?
This regime is a cancer on our democracy.
We now preemtively invade countries. We torture POWs. We fleece the poor and middle classes so that rich, over-priveleged sons and daughters of the elite can shirk responsibility for their own lives and contribute nothing to society. We do this gleefully. We trash the environment. We are losing our right to privacy, our right to debate, our right to oppose.
All of this in four short years. How long did it take Hitler to concentrate power in Germany?
We won't win if this election is about Bush's personality or "hating" Bush.
We need to paint the bigger picture.
