Ok, I’ve 2 adult sons with disabilities. The sub group Killed most often in our crazy world. Physical and behavioral health workers, the first line of defense for those not living with us, are often minority, grossly underpaid, and working long hours. I am going to give an extra $100 to each of the aides working with my son in Charles Kinsey’s name. If you wish to donate to help Kinsey, here is one Go Fund Me account that claims to help pay for his hospital costs and HERE is a second GFM for Kinsey. (see editor’s note below before donating).
One more minor note, I see a lot of anger towards the police officer. Personally, I think that person is redeemable, and shouldn’t necessarily be thrown under the bus. He didn’t lie. He didn't have a pat answer ready to go. Please, go easy on him.
* Editor’s Note from Besame
askyron queued this to KosAbility and asked me to publish it and then wasn’t around to answer my questions, so I published it with these notes. The links to the fundraising page go to two fundraisers active right now and only one has received any donations. I don’t know how the fundraiser is associated with Kinsey and if this is legitimate or not. The person who initiated it, Bryce Hickerson, has a Facebook link on the Go Fund Me page that isn’t active. HERE is Hickerson’s real Facebook Timeline. The second GFM has no donations but at least is from the same area as Kinsey (Florida).
I also thought it needed some explanation of who is Charles Kinsey and what happened to him.
...Kinsey, who was shot by North Miami police on Monday, was hit in the leg and survived his wound. The behavioral therapist was trying to help an autistic patient in distress when police approached with guns drawn. They were apparently responding to a 911 call about an armed man threatening suicide, but as cellphone video of the runup to the shooting makes clear, Kinsey did everything he possibly could to reassure the officers that neither he nor his patient was a threat. While the autistic man played with a toy truck in the street, Kinsey lay on his back, with his hands up, telling the officers that no one on the scene—other than the police themselves—was armed. Kinsey was shot anyway.
