Hurricane Katrina and the disastrous response has produced the most striking disparity between White and Black American views on an event since the O.J. Simpson trial. According to an ABC/WaPo poll, 76% of blacks vs 24% of whites believe that the rescue effort would have been quicker had the victims been predominantly wealthy and white (personally, I find it amazing that 76% of whites don't agree with that premise).
Chicago Tribune columnist Eric Zorn turns his column space today over to provide snips of callers and guests from "The Cliff Kelley Show," the morning-drive program on WVON-AM 1450, a talk station with a predominantly liberal, African-American audience.
Snips from his snips:
Cliff Kelley (host)--New Orleans "Mayor [Ray] Nagin is an idiot. It's unfortunate. I'm sorry. The man's a brother, but he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about ... That man is totally incompetent, and it's too bad, because he takes some of the heat off [the Bush administration]. As far as I'm concerned, he didn't fulfill his responsibility."
